Something very ***y about a woman dressed to the nines and wearing a hat. :eusa_clap

A character in the movie Easy Virtue is shown donning similar headwear.

"Special tailored clothes, sewn with hidden pockets" - True story, my great-grand father was a tailor who made suits, for among others, members of the mob (Louis "Lepke" Buchalter, being the most well-known). He passed when I was three, but the stories I always heard about him were about him sewing in special pockets into the suits he made for these guys to carry their ***s. Crazy!

British TV show A Thousand Blows (written by Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders renown) is a fictionalised version of the antics of the Forty Elephants. It's a sort of 'what if', which beings together a lot of London characters of the 1880s, and imagines how they might have interacted had their paths crossed.

Streamed on Disney Plus in the UK (series 2 will drop early in 2026), not sure where it's available elsewhere.

In terms of the visual vibe of the original Forty Elephants here, I'm somewhat reminded of Ken Russell's famous Teddy Girls photos:

Though by the fifties, these Teddy Girl street kids had largely dropped hats altogether.
