To beard or not to beard?

My wife complained that I look like an old man when I wear one. Other women have told me that I like it...but guess who calls that shot?

There is that scratchy wool blanket on your face feel to it, but I always enjoy the view from the mirror when it finally is past the stubble bum stage.

My son is now 25, so that tells you how long ago this was.

Those last two photos look perfectly fine.

Yeah, but you get that magnificent feeling of shaving a full beard. If you've never grown a beard and then shaved it off, you should. Everyone should.
I currently have three months of growth on my mug. I'm going to see how long I can tolerate the beard then take some pleasure in removing it with the sharpest blade I have.

You look ten years younger without it. Could be a good thing or a bad thing.

My thoughts as well.

My whiskers grow so fast that my bearded self gets to looking kinda scruffy after only a few days without serious grooming. That's among the reasons I haven't been bearded in a couple of decades, at least. Another is that a beard makes me appear older but not wiser. I get the sense that I'm taken more seriously sans whiskers. And I've got so much gray in it now that I fear I would look fit for the old folks home were I to grow it out.

You look fine in the beard, Johnny. It's a good look for you. But to my eye you look friendlier without it. More approachable, you know.

A beard most certainly ads 10 or more years to your appearance. Maybe that's why all these young hipster types walks around looking like taliban or lumberjacks? (Says I - who sometimes let it all grow for weeks and sometimes is clean-shaven)

Yeah, I do like having a beard because shaving everyday is such a chore, but I really look like an old man with a beard, so without is better for me. Maybe when I really am an old man, then it'll be ok. And yes, shaving off a beard does give a wonderfully smooth shave. It's good to give your face a rest from shaving for a while.

Winter in Canada????? Keep the beard.

If you like the beard that's a start: If your wife likes the beard that's the ultimate thing. (My wife hate's it when I grow a beard, refuses to come anywhere near me and tells me I look like an old man. I think I look distinguished. So I grow it until she moans too much then shave it and feel miserable).

I recently braved my wife's ire and decided to go from van-dyke to full beard, she's now "getting used to it".... My barber's reaction? "If you can grow one you should do it!"

Given the option between beard and no beard, I'll always choose beard. It appears that my reason for keeping a beard is the reason for some that they avoid it! It's true that it does add about ten years to a face and I have a generally young looking face, but I feel like people take me more seriously with a beard than me looking like a sixteen year old. I'd rather look thirty-six than sixteen.

My two cents.
