Hey, I've read that Pilgrims are a mix of hare and rabbit. I bought a hat with such a mix, and to me the felt was a little rough and did not want to obey instructions.
How is a Pilgrim's felt? I have been thinking of buying one, just to know I have one. Are they worth it? Wouldn't a hare/rabbit mix felt get wonky if it got wet?

Max, probably 90% or more of the vintage hats you see here are hare, rabbit or a mix. There just was not a commercial supply of beaver available in that time period. Just like with the hats today the difference in quality had more to do with the maker’s skill than with material. As for getting wonky, I bet that most of the really fine vintage (rabbit or hare) hats we love so much have gotten soaked at least a few times. We probably baby them more than necessary.

Home run, Max! Right out of the park!

Wearing this '50s era refurbed Dobbs Fifth Avenue with an over welted brim that a fellow Lounger, who wishes to remain anonymous, gave me...I have more in the Conversion Corral.

Steller conversion as always, Terry!

Love the brim and colors, Brent.

When it gets windy or rainy, I tend to reach for the Akubra Campdraft due to its indestructability or at least, the fact that it can be replaced.

Homage to Bob

Great for the rain, great homage to Bob.

It's a Pecan VS kinda day, I really like the finish on this hat....But starting to sprinkle out so might switch to the Akubra

I passed on a 7x once... bad Doug, BAD Doug! Fantastic hat, Greg.

Hey folks!
Thanks for all the likes and kind words. Much appreciated. :)
It might not have the acreage of yesterday's Collins & Fairbanks, but this 40' Adam Premier Quality still casts a shadow.

Wow, what a show stopper. Vents, and no brim stitching? Inconceivable! ;)

Despite my tired look, I wanted to get this new addition on top of my head as soon as possible, to show you guys. 40's Dobbs Rainbow, go to the Dobbs Diner thread for more of this. Happy Thursday fellas.
You sure are putting together a great collection, Mondo!

Another fine Champ, Richard.

That is really sweet, looks mint Doug
Almost! There are handwritten notes under the sweat indicating this one was cleaned, and trimmed down to 2-1/2", although I measure it at 2-9/16!
