To me your Buckaroo is more of a crossover, this 8X a Derby. The center crease I had in mind for the Buckaroo is more like shown below. You can add wide dents or not.

Oh those are pretttty. I see what you’re talking about.
That 8X seemed to massive in the crown for a derby, and it isn’t very stiff, even though it seems to be shaped like one, but I see what you mean.

I snowblowed snow early this Whippet Wednesday. Wool jacket and a vtg. Stetson Whippet were my chore choices.

A bit later I snowshoe'd a path for the dog and I thru the yard while wearing a vtg.Stetson Fifteen (Mode Edge).

Why is it snowblowed and not "snowblew"? I checked. English grammar is so aleatory.
I read this Bill Bryson book twice, and it helped a little, but it is still so difficult.

Thanks, it's a period & style that is among my favorites.

No matter how you shape the 8X it's the brim that makes me think of a Western Derby. The Buckaroo has the flatter brim with swoop & pencil curl that lends itself to the crossover look with the right crease. Should you ever decide to change it up.

Gotcha. It makes me want to find other hats with wide flattish brims (with or without the curl) and yet uncreased crowns. What is the period, exactly? And if I may ask, which two hats were those you posted as examples?

Steve, all of your Seal Velours just shine. This one has something really special about it. Could also be the colors that complement your environment out there. Nice!

Had to pull out the Akubra (Bushman) for a rainy night hike this evening!

...and also wore it earlier this week during our unseasonably warm day prior to the return of real winter temps.

Awesome hats this week, everyone!
