Happy Memorial Day to all the United States forum members. I tip my brim to my grandfather, uncles, aunts, father, and brothers for their efforts to secure freedom and security to all of us thru their sacrifices in WWII, Korea, Haiti, Serbia, Desert Storm, Iraq War and all other assignments. I visited our local veteran cemetery very early morning with family to offer tribute to my family who is buried their and give a nod to all the other family who has served. God speed and god bless!

Out for an early morning dog walk in an Akubra Camp Draft in bluegrass. Rain did not deter this hat from its duties.

The Akubra went to dry out on a block after its dog walk duties.

Mid-day I headed out for a hike to have some quiet reflective time. Steady rain had me wearing a Gannon fedora (granite hued beaver and charcoal trimmings). I visited the prairie fields that I assisted in performing a controlled burn 2 weeks ago.

Rain and warmer weather has the fields looking sharp. Field grasses and wild flowers are thriving. Our local fauna, foxes, deer beer and birds were the living things I got to see during my hike. I did happen across a couple of wildlife dinner remains on my hike.

The modern beaver felt (Winchester felt), IMO, is a perfect choice in hat for the steady soaking rain. Pics show the hat as thoroughly soaked, but no moisture can be felt thru to the liner or inside.

The leather sweat still is going strong and not soaked after several hours in the rain. Home now, I have the hat on a wooden block drying. When it gets nearly dry, later this evening, I can blast it with some steam if the felt needs some shaping and to brush the nap into its original features. I will use a bit of leather conditioner on the sweat band before letting it dry and then store.

Posting on the Fedora Lounge reminds me of all things vintage. On this steady rainy
60'f afternoon, I wore nothing vintage. I did this with deliberate choice. Repellent hiking pants, grand waterproof hiking boots, rain jacket, modern accessories and a modern fedora steaded me well in the inclement weather.

Cheers folks on Memorial Day 2019.

Happy Decoration Day, all. Enjoying the day off and thinking of those who served and gave. My father was a corpsman in WWII in France. Thank goodness he came back or I wouldn't be here. So many didn't.

Dobbs Hanover Square and a portion of oinker who did give his or her all for the cause (mah belly).

Nice hat, Fruno! I see you too are a member of the Hanover Square club. I am starting to feel left out.

I actually didn't wear a hat yesterday, daytime, as I was outdoors doing very dirty things, and my follically-challenged head is paying for it now, as it was 85 degrees and sunny.

Last night, however, as the temperatures dropped, I wore my cream w/rust ribbon Royal Stetson for a night out.

Oh no!

I don't believe the original utilitarian reason for the Stetson was to hide your sunburn from peers. It's main purpose was to hide your noggin from the sun and any other menace.

Go to Walmart and buy the ugliest paper straw they have, then say 5 hail Mary's.

Wearing my latest conversion project this a.m. This one started out as a 7 3/8 Longhair Stetson 4X Western that I blocked down one size and converted to a fedora. The crown is tall and straight with a tight pinch and is creased to my preferred Teardrop. I went with a 2 5/8 brim width this time around as opposed to my usual 2 3/4 width. I have more in the Conversion Corral...
