Hey, Tim, it turned out nice! Looks great on you, too!! Glad it worked out! Now I can vouch for Tim’s ability to clean and shape a hat. It was a little rough. I’ve got one coming that will need a naphtha bath. Looks as if it was kept on a shelf in a chicken house! The underneath looks clean, but the top has dirt, filth and feathers on it!
The gas bath will be my first attempt. Hope it works like it does in the movies!

That’s my kinda deal, great price for a little work, and the satisfaction of bringing an old vintage hat back to it’s former glory !

I think it will be fine, may not even need the Naphtha. It’s surprising what some water, steam and brushing will do. If you do decide to use the Coleman Fuel, keep in mind that is some seriously volatile sh*t. I once got a campsite on fire with it when a lantern sprung a leak.

Another ‘My kinda deal’ arrived tonight. A vintage Whippet for $50. My first Whippet. Another mangled, dirty mess, but at least no chicken feathers. I actually had to take it outside and blow it off with low pressure from the air compressor before I even took these photos ! Pretty bad stain on the ribbon, but perfect felt, sweat and liner. The liner has just come unsown.

I may try to flip the ribbon if I can’t get the stain out, but not sure how to handle the bow.

I’ll get to work on it after I finish the Disney. More to come......

Together with the Barbisio family, this Borsalino arrived from another seller.
Sold in Venezia, one hundred kilometers from Verona, it had ended up in France.
borsa-cola-1-jpg.206446
I bought it based on experience because the photos were not very significant. It was a perfect gamble, but it was a winner
borsa-cola-2-jpg.206447

Borsalino Antica Casa size 5 or 57 cm.
borsa-cola-4-jpg.206448

I had sensed the felt was finished antelope and so it is. One of the best felts I have seen and touched of this type
borsa-cola-interno-totale-jpg.206450

Its construction typology is the same as that of "coffin" Borsalino as it has a fabric sweatband and has no lining

The color of the felt is "Cola" and as you can see from the label it is not old, probably from the 70s.
borsa-cola-3-jpg.206451

The measures are as follows. raw brim at 8 centimeters, the open crown is 14 cm. and the ribbon that matches the felt color is 4 cm.
borsa-cola-5-jpg.206452

If you like it, it can be yours. Write me

I have a large collection of homburg or "diplomatique" as these hats are called in France, the French ones are in majority, perhaps matched by Borsalino
And they are also my favorite ones. There are various reasons for my choice, but discussing them here is misleading
Morreton 1.jpg

I have examples of the best known brands: Mossant, Tirard, Flechet and also of lesser known brands: J&B, Thibet, Ecuyer & Thomas, but none represented for Morreton
Morreton 2.jpg

Morreton "Elysèe" size is 60 cm. and it fit perfectly
Morreton 3.jpg

Fantastic black light weight felt with a velvety finish, malleable as you like
Morreton interno.jpg

Sold in one of the fashion streets of Paris, it is also of excellent quality, according to the denomination "Elysée"
Morreton etichetta carta.jpg
Morreton marchio.jpg
The measures are as follows. brim at six centimeters, the open crown is 14 cm. and the ribbon that matches the felt color is 4 cm.
Morreton 4.jpg

I really like its shape with the pinches and the profile you get
Morreton 5.jpg

Finally I completed my survey on the French "Diplomatique"

That one looks perfect. Has it ever been worn?

We end the presentation of this lucky find with another fairly experimental Barbisio
View attachment 206176
Super Barbisio Extra Lusso size 5 or 57 cm.
View attachment 206177
A magnificent colored felt and the finish is called "velvet", rare enough to be found in Barbisio production
View attachment 206180
As well as the shape of the ribbon which is a cord with knot, always of the same felt that surrounds the crown
View attachment 206181
There are still inside the paper badges of the hat in the shop
View attachment 206183
The finishes are different from the other Barbisio of the lot, no lining, but only a sail inside the crown, the "Velvet" stamp printed in front of the sweatband
View attachment 206184
The color of the velor felt is "Primavera" and of course the finish is "Velvet"
View attachment 206186
The measurements are as follows: the brims are 5.8 cm. with pleated finish and sewn with two seams over the brim, the open crown is about 13 cm. and the cord is approximately 0.5 cm with loop
View attachment 206188
This is the end of the Barbisio haul, hope to have more in the next months
That's a very interesting hat. Velvet is an English word. Is it also part of the Italian language?
