Hey, Michael, if you want to double yer money on that twenty let me know.
That’s one knarly Knox!
Thanks Randall. Since I have this one custom fitted to my head now I'm sort of loathe to part with it. But I'll take it under advisement.

Beautiful Twenty Michael, and I really like the colors in that Harris Tweed.
Thanks Tim. This is one of my more colorful Harris Tweeds.

Well, good, ‘cause here it is:
Very nice, Randall. Looks perfect. Great color plays.

The French connection seems to be in full swing. Wonderful, Daniele.

Thanks, Michael. Had to take another look at the Mayser to be honest:)
Indeed best to to mention to someone where the hat came from after three drinks!

Very nice, Michael. I like the understated look of that Knox.

Ah, yes, that one. There's a whole lot to like there, Steve. Super hats and great shots.

That looks fantastic, Randall. Great job you did there.

I may be able to do you one better, Tim. Don't touch that dial...(full enabling mode switched on here;))
Thanks Stefan.

It's getting there after spending about seventy years in a little box.
Very nice. Was it in a coffin?

Thanks all,
Michael

LOL, it is velvety or suedish, not sure technically since I haven’t had one yet. A little different style for me with a shorter 4-1/2” open crown and 2” brim, and not sure what the ribbon material is, but this hat is all about the liner......
Again wit da tease. Can I ask if you wore a fedora while you worked it as a dancer at a woman’s club?
LOL :)
Just kidding around, Tim. Please Don’t send no hate mail my way.

View attachment 213189 Here’s another $60 hat I got this week from Goodwill.
It’s very similar in age and look to the Open Road (type) hat that was given to me from @Rmccamey . I call that one my MacKamie, as Randy says that’s how his name was spelled back in the ancient times...when he was born? :)
This one is designated as an actual Open Road and couldn’t be but a year, or two, or so, between each other.
Which begs the age old question:
is an Open Road an Open Road even if it’s not designated as an Open Road on the sweat?
Notice, too, the small differences between the two.
My new one has a 2” sweat and the MacKamie has a 1 1/2”
The liner tip logos are real similar, but subtly different.
The sweat logos are completely different. I shaped them both differently, intentionally.

They’re alike in dimensions, felt color, hand and feel. They also have a few moth bites, but not annoyingly so.
Maybe these hats shared the same
Mother or father.
Also, the reason the wind trolly is placed backwards on my newest to me hat is because the moth larvae ate a hole in the string so I sewed it back together and hid the repair just under the ribbon in the back instead of seeing it plainly in front.
Anyone have a comment on these two hats? View attachment 213194 View attachment 213195
Your GoodWills are clearly better than mine. The last hat I saw in a Good Will was literally made out of paper. Like a St Pats costume or something. Lame.

PS, BOTH of those hats are gorgeous

The question of when it’s an Open Road (or any other model) has been discussed a lot in the past. General consensus is that if it’s not factory marked as an Open Road or if you don’t have any provenance supporting that it’s an OR, then it’s not an Open Road. You can safely call it an OR style. Heck, I don’t care what you call it, but if you ever sell it you might want to use caution in your description.

Good call, Brent.
As a matter of fact, I sold an 80s Stetson on eBay yesterday that was in style an Open Road, but not written on the sweat. I listed it as an “Open Road type”. But it still sold for 140!
I couldn’t believe it. I even stated that it was a hard felt that was hard to change the crease. I thought it might go for $60 or so.

Thanks, Rumad. Guess I got lucky.
Except for the moth damage that Goodwill “forgot”to mention or include pics of. It’s a good idea to always ask about that, but this time I took a chance and didn’t. It’s still a great hat for the money. This one done some time in the cooler, as they used to call it on Hogan’s Heros.

I'm of the view- not shared by all - the if it has the right block, style, and dimensions, it's an OR. Even if it's not on the sweat.

It’s certainly a point with a lot of logic behind it. I think the real problems arise when anything with a 2 3/4 inch (plus or minus) bound brim, and any sort of thin ribbon gets called an Open Road.

I have Stetsons where the only model reference is on a paper label designed to be detached from the hat. If that label becomes detached the hat doesn’t stop being that model.

When they are your own hat it really doesn’t matter. When buying and selling it gets stickier. The OR is misidentified as much as the Whippet is.

They look mighty nice and very similar, both worth some head time.
