30 Days to 30 Hats - Day 30
Henry H Roelofs and Co - The Roelofs

Henry H Roelofs and Co - The Roelofs
Very soft brown felt
4 3/4 crown when open
1 inch matching grosgrain ribbon
3 1/2 brim sides - 3 1/8 front

The final day of the 30 Days to 30 Hats has come and with that I thought I would present at hat that is likely the oldest in my collection. The Roelofs from Henry H Roelofs and Co of Philadelphia. Do not know actual age of the hat however The company was closed or sold around 1912... inside the sweatband was newspaper clippings dated 1903 and 1904. This hat arrived to me a crushed mushy mess. But it reshaped fairly easily.

Today I gave it a good cleaning and steamed it out to an open crown and decided to go with a simple center crease with some basic side dents. Really kinda brought it to life.

And with that... 30 Days to 30 Hats comes to a close. Thanks to everyone following along with me on this Journey and @Randall Renshaw for being my social distanced travel buddy!

Now what to do about the hats that didn’t make the cut..... OVERTIME?

Great match on that hat Mike. Did you do some research on Connery's hat or just happen to notice they were similar ?
Very similar. The golf scene in Goldfinger shows a blue milan that has all the same lines and ribbon size. I'm sure that he was not wearing a Dobbs, more like some fancy schmancy English brand. But the shape and time frame fits.

Congratulations To you and your family Daniele

Very nice. Congratulations to her. Japanese is a hard language.

Many congratulations Daniele to you and your daughter.

Proud Papa and a beautiful young lady Daniele.
Is there a ceremonial meaning to a laurel wreath?
B

Wonderful pictures Daniele ! Congratulations to both of you.
I want to thank you all from my daughter Ginevra and myself :)
Bowen the laurel wreath is a symbol of wisdom and often in the ancient representation of the Italian Renaissance scholars (poets, men of letters and men of culture) are represented with a laurel wreath. Clearly it is a Roman reminiscence where the laurel wreath was a symbol of dignity. Last curiosity: it is used above all in the Northeast Italian universities where Padua, founded in 1222, is the dean and the center. It was my university many years ago, but now I am the only non-graduate in the family. I followed another vocation ;)

Inspired by Joe, this is Day 1 of my "31 Days of Hats" parade. In no particular order, mostly just what falls to hand each day. Today, I ventured out to Home Depot in a early 1950s Borsalino Featherweight. This hat has came from Anthony Amodio and the crease is his creation. Featherweight is a true description of this one, lighter than a popcorn fart!
