I am really enjoying the lines of this Lee Black Label “Commentator” and it has definitely gotten some head time the past few days. It shares a bit of block styling with my Lee Bronze label. The felt is a rich chocolate brown with a matching grosgrain mid ribbon. The brim is 2 1/2 underwelt edge with a neat stitching pattern. The generous 2 inch sweatband is nice and Soft.. the seam bow at the rear or the sweat has come unattached so I need to reattach that. The cool Lee liner is loose... though I may take it out and set it aside. Those little details aside the felt is in real nice shape and I really love the look and feel of this hat.

Lee 5th Avenue Water Bloc
Black Label - Commentator
Chocolate Brown Felt
4 1/2 to 4 rakish crown as shaped
1 3/8 Grosgrain mid ribbon
2 1/2 brim with underwelt edge
2 inch sweat

Lee looks swell on you, Joe!
Speaking of swells, sounds like your state, and mine, may see a few.
Definitely don’t need anymore rain here.
The Rodgers Peet looks grand, too.

Merry Christmas!

Back in New Zealand, Christmas is in summer, but lots of the traditions are from the northern hemisphere. To observe some of those traditions (and to make lots of money) lots of the pubs have a midwinter Christmas in June or July.

Now we live in Japan, my wife & I decided we should celebrate a midsummer Christmas. We celebrate it on the weekend following the end of the rainy season. It’s true we don’t really observe NZ Christmas traditions, but it gives us a chance to eat, drink and be merry and to buy each other something that we want but don’t really need. This year it was Panama hats.

This is why, despite it arriving a while back, I’m wearing my Panama out and about for the first time today.

My wife went for her Borsalino as it matched her outfit better.

Thai food, then some whisky at a local bar. The Ardberg was very tasty but Lagavulin remains my drop of choice.

Went to town to visit my folks for the first time since February (they are in assisted living with tight restrictions). Plus it was Mom’s 86th birthday. I had limited selection of nice hats at the farm so went with the Playboy — even though it still needs some tweaks.

It turned out to be a two hat day (however briefly) as this was the first time the Clarkson bowler (I got from @Frunobulax ) and I were in the same room. Finally ... a bowler that fits! Thanks Jim!

So glad you got to go see the folks, Bob. I can’t imagine the amount of grief you’ve had not being able to see them since Feb with all this danger for them. How wonderful a birthday present for Mom. A hat-full of prayers for them and you.

Ps: hope you told her thanks...she did all the work you know.

Thanks Bowen. I really appreciate your sentiments. We bought Mom a photo frame that the whole family can access and manage remotely. Now we can call her and say ... “check the frame — I found this old photo of some family members and I need some clarification.”

Also went to the last day of the folks estate sale and bought a couple more things. Was sad to see it all go. Couldn’t bring myself to stay for the auction at noon as I probably would have brought half of the stuff home and there ain’t no more room. Or I would have been tossed as a “shill” bidder. :D

Wow.. that photo frame is a wonderful idea. Ability to access remotely is very cool.
