It's a fairly recent production Stetson. Perhaps when you get it, there will be a model designation if there is still anything left of the UPC tag. It's under 20 years old, and likely under 10.

You might page through some old catalogs to see if you find something similar. They currently don't go back very far, though.

Thanks very much!
I bet there's something under the sweatband that might lead somewhere. Thanks for the link ;-)

Hello everyone,

Hope you're all doing well! I could use some help here. I recently picked up this Miller "San Fran" BUT I don't think it's Miller-Stockman. I'm looking at the logo and it's definitely not a match by any means. However, the height of the crown and width of the brim (along with the bound edge and 6ply cord) match the exact measurements & trim as the one Miller-Stockman produced in the late 40's as per catalogue. The felt is incredibly soft and the leather band is too. Great shape nonetheless... Previous owner said it was her grandfathers, bought possibly in the early 50's.

So, let me hear your thoughts. Is it safe to assume this is a clone from a different "Miller"? *Notice the year of the co. in liner* I know every company out there had their own versions of hat styles. I just cant find anything on this company! Original box from "NO NAME HATS NYC" makes ya wonder...
I've attached some images...
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Jesse

Miller hats was not the same company as Miller Stockman, according to True West. Same family, different entities.

The No Name Hat Co was entirely separate, the box does not go with the hat.

Hey Jared, thank you for your reply and sharing that article. So I guess it must've come from another Miller brother that sent Phillip Miller to Denver from NYC. Could it be possible that NO NAME sold Miller hats too? Considering both were based in NYC, I thought maybe there's a chance that the Miller family had a good rep & branched out. Just a thought, I could be wrong. Thanks again!

The can’t help identifying who made it, but that is a gorgeous hat! It’s just “right” in every way.

Roy, that’s a fine looking Canadian made No. 1 Quality. There are some fairly specific dates that can be found concerning the beginning of licensing and manufacturing of Stetson’s in Canada but it’s difficult dating specific hats, at least for me. I read through quite a few of the threads when I acquired a Canadian 7X CB some time ago. This is a place to start. Don’t remember ever seeing a No. 1 w/o a liner. Beautiful hat.

This is a hat that was made by a Canadian hat company under license from Stetson. It is a No. 1 Quality which is, well, a quality level and not a model. The No. 1 was not one of the best “levels,” but they are usually solid and are desirable hats. Yours obviously has a three cord / 3-ply crown ribbon, crown stamp without a liner, and a raw edge brim. As for the model, it’s often impossible to know if the name wasn’t stamped on the hat. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in. Not all of the Stetson dating guides work with hats made by other companies under contract. It’s a very nice hat!
