The Italian hat producers, manufacturers and exporters of the greatest number of hats in the world trade of this product, found themselves in a decade to pay the economic and social change in the tastes of a generation and, almost all of their glory days ended in unison.
View attachment 283197 I am one of that generation and perhaps that is why I now pay my atonement for that sin by collecting their magnificent hats

Barbisio closed at the beginning of the Eighties and the Cervo hat factory, two hundreds metrs further, took it upon itself to carry on the name.
This is a machine-formed hat that was the child of that difficult time
View attachment 283201 The felt is dark green, rigid due to too much shellac, excellent finishes outside, very hasty inside.
Barbisio size 59 without any other indications. After years of battles with Borsalino for the high quality they left over some unfinished beauty, like this

I think my wife asking me to go with to Costco two days before Thanksgiving was some sort of test. :)
I passed: I’d follow her anywhere.

Good man! My wife had me drive her to 5 stores on the busiest holiday-shopping main drag in Rhode Island tonight. I'm exhausted from trying not to go to jail lol.

That is an interesting liner. I have not seen one of those.

View attachment 282993 View attachment 282992 Late 50s RD Stetson with a Selv-Edge and a netted liner. I’ve never seen a net liner in a felt hat and wonder just how much cooler it could make the wearer, but it’s certainly a cool feature!
Also curious is the absence of a sweatband embossment indicating that this is a Selv-Edge.
Love that this ribbon is a dark navy blue and not the typical black—It’s lignes also untypical.
Great hats by everyone on the FL today! View attachment 282988 View attachment 282990 View attachment 282991

Killer hat liner, Michael!
At least while out hunting in that outfit, no other hunters are likely to shoot you in the shins!
Thanks Randall. Should work on the bike, too. I've been enjoying seeing your finds and rebuilds of late. Very nice.

Rainy and very dark today. A rare day of wearing the same clothes two days in a row. Some of the same at least.
Unknown maker wool hat today.

Only metric sizing so it would seem to be from the European market
