Lamson Hubbard Genuine Panama - The Colonel
Tight fine weave
5 inch crown
Dimensional Brim 3 1/4 front - 3 inch sides

I had not heard of this brand Lamson Hubbard… but from the sellers photos it appeared to be a really fine weave. It has not disappointed in that regard. In person the weave is very tight and small appears almost like canvas. I find interesting that in photos the weaves do not look quite as tight as they do in person. I think I will compare the weave on this on and my Herbert Johnson Optimo. Between the liner tip and Not much sun today holding up to the sun would not provide much of an effect. The 3 1/4 by 3 inch brim seems to prefer an up brim…. But with some coaxing it will stay down sometimes. I really love the pug. Under the sweat and oilskin sweat liner revealed a made in Ecuador stamp.. some pencil notations and union tag. There is an area of discoloration on the back underside of the brim and I managed to dislodge the sweat bow and size tag while I was fiddling around. Will probably reattach. All and all…. Loving my new/old Colonel Panama.

Oh yeah, that’s Pancho Villa country.

Once, while working in the U. of Illinois' dental clinic in Chicago, I was handed a chart with the name "Doroteo Arango".

That was Pancho Villa's real name, so I let out a laugh. The patient was obviously giving a false name to avoid paying for treatment later. I went to him and introduced myself as Dr. Emiliano Zapata, and he just got up and left. We didn't see him again.

I can imagine his frustration at finding the only dentist in the Chicago area who knew Pancho Villa's real name.

Darn Bob. Wish some of my “justa” hats were as nice. Tropic Weight justa bout be right lately.

Thanks Bowen. It was an appropriate choice for the weather. Just a few light sprinkles on it a one point.

Dang, I dig that hat.

I dang-dig it as well! Thanks Jim.

Amazing, Bob. Grail hat for me.

Thanks Mike! Talk to my wife in 20+ years. It might be a bit big though.

Yeah, just.

:D Thanks David.

Yeah, and the back of the bow is all tattered and all. Too bad.
Better luck on the next hat, Bob!
:)

That’n is so crazy fine!
Have ya registered the old girl in the Lot# thread?

Thanks Randall! I got another hat recently with a tattered ribbon like that -- how does that happen? ;) I just added this one to the Lot XXXX thread. Although the number is a bit hard to read.

JUST he says… ;)

Thanks Joe. Well, the "Select Quality" was pretty far down the list at one point.

1927 ad (thanks @DaveProc). This hat may be from 1929 (the only ad I found for "Tropic Weight").

Thanks, Bowen. I used the Tankersley as a template but went a bit shorter on the crown (I don’t say that often).

It was long my plan to get another, more like the one you just received - more tradisional fedora with a wider ribbon in that bronze color. However, the problems experienced by folks over the last few years have made me stay my hand. I'd probably feel better about it if I could get back down there and talk to them in person.

Cheers, Eric -
That's quite an impressive display. I see some rain on that Gun Club. How would it fare in anything other than a touch of rain?
