1950s Borsalino. This one got a couple of really nice comments from strangers in Copenhagen today. View attachment 467930
You're right, I've been to Copenhagen, they are a strange lot. How they deal with a 50's Borsalino I cannot think. But I, good sir, think that hat is impeccable.

Akubra with freckles, they don't come more original than that! That said, it's an Akubra and did you know that Akubra is Australian for hat. Such is their pedigree!

That's the first time that I have seen Pewter as a colour description, I rather like it. Classic hat too.

A Mallory Aristocrat, great hat, great description, the reserved seating suggests that I should doff my hat, whilst the lite ale, well it's not exactly champagne, is it? Cracking hat though!

I am still getting over the novelty of having a Moss Green hat, it had yet another airing today.

I just had a total knee replacement about 11 days ago so I'm not doing much with hats for now until I recover just a little bit more. If anyone's contemplating knee surgery, it's a breeze, for me at least. Three days out, I was walking around my house without aid. My surgery was outpatient and the hospital PT had me up and walking on a walker shortly after waking up in recovery. Just thought I'd throw that out there for those who may be facing the same surgery but are putting it off for one reason or another. Anyway, here's a reposting of a 3X Resistol I refurbished a couple or so years ago. I reblocked it, gave it a new ribbon, reshaped the brim , and creased it with a Montana Pinch and a Mule Kick in the back. Older pictures from a couple of years ago...

Glad to hear the surgery went well and the recovery is smooth, Terry. The hat looks wonderful. Great work as always.

Thank you steur! As far as the surgery itself, and being able to get up and walk around, that all went better than expected. My all around recovery, though, was made somewhat miserable for the sole fact, that apparently, I'm allergic to the compression socks, (Ted hose), I had to wear afterwards. My whole surgical leg became one big itchy rash that spread to my other leg and back. The knee surgery itself and the recovery limited to just the knee was a piece of cake. The allergic rash was my only issue. The doctor told me not wear them anymore, so now it's getting better. Tomorrow I get the staples out and the Wednesday, I start PT.

Good to see you making a recovery Terry, allergies to medical dressings is not uncommon, annoying though. Just before the Covid lock down I had a hip replacement. I can remember trying to get out of bed for the first time after surgery, to go to the bathroom. The process took so long that I nearly wet myself, yet just two days later and I walked out of hospital and into the car. Not that I drove it mind, I wasn't that brave, Tina did her chauffeuring duty that day.

Today I'm on errand boy duties, Tina is going to start preparing Christmas things like the Christmas cake and Christmas puddings. You should see the ingredients that go into her puddings, not least, the brandy and Guinness.

Thank you, Robert. Isn't making English Christmas puddings considered a form of alchemy?

When I was a child it was common practice to include small silver coins in the pudding mixture, which could be kept by the person whose serving included them. The usual choice was a silver sixpence, or if you were very lucky, a silver shilling. The coin was believed to bring wealth in the coming year, and came from an earlier tradition, defunct by the twentieth century, wherein tokens were put in a cake.

Another practice was for all family members to take it in turns to stir the pudding mixture and make a wish. We all wished for the shilling. Mother put sixpenny pieces in the mixture but there would only be one shilling. None of us ever worried about zinc or copper poisoning.

The Christmas cracker was another tradition. They always contain a joke, some trashy toy, (unless the were Harrods cracker) and the ubiquitous, paper hat. Oh, and one further Christmas tradition:

Good to hear of your progress with your left knee replacement. Perhaps in between PT sessions is a good time for a few more T Jones conversions.;) Cheers Terry and good to hear you are recovering swiftly.

Eric -
Thank you Eric! That's not a bad idea at all. I can get around pretty good so there's no reason I can't get back to doing some conversions. Might even be therapeutic! I have a few in mind here, so I just might do that. Thanks Eric!
