He does it because he can. As long as people buy it on those terms, he'd be stupid not to.
This is also a way to control supply and demand and keep order books from getting too fat. A huge backlog is not always an advantage.

I did ask him a while back and he told me he didn't include belts in the price cause most people don't wear one.
It's a loose loose situation for him though...

If the belt was included in the price people who don't wear a belt would complain that they had to pay for something they don't want, or ask for a discount to buy the jacket without the belt.

If the belt isn't included people complain that they have to pay more to get it...

You can't please everyone.

The issue is that to Stu that belt is worth 250 whether included or excluded. It is made with strips of hh and does not even have the fixer? Stopper? Cross strap?
My 2nd hand j23 came with the belt or I would go buy the RM belt rather than getting the LW.

You see, that´s always the thing that puzzles me: Why are some people so passionate about his demeanor.

If I
- don´t like a product
- like the product but not the price
- like product and price but not the producer,

I will just let it be and move on. What I will not do is hang around and lecture everybody else about how wrong their support is. Unless of course I have prove that I am wiser than everybody else...;).

Speaking generlly here; not directed to anybody specific. I always enjoy such discussions; I just don´t want to participate.

I mean, he's not forcing you to buy it is he? If you don't like it don't buy it.

Also, the belt has the fixer if you want it:

It's interresting how LW bashing goes in phases, it felt like we had evolved past that recently and then boom, a fresh bashing session to celebrate the end of 2022...

You are right. No one forced anyone to buy anything. I am simply stating my choice. I would not call comments on his pricing bashing.
Countless other brands have been called overpriced by members here. For LW it's just the belt that IMO is overpriced. I have not said anything negative about my j23. In other words, buy the LW jacket but buy the belt elsewhere.
And LW did have problem with sizing. It is possible that they have improved. I have not bought any LW for a long time so I would not know.

I always wonder if the people who actually attack Lost Worlds have handled any of their leather jackets.

I mean, just looking at some of the ones people have here @JMax @red devil @Carlos840 @Tom71 @Mysteryo @tmitchell59 @lopo there's no objective way to rant about the product at all so I guess next step is rant about the maker or the prices.

Surprising that people rant about Lost Worlds but find it acceptable to buy from Simmons Bilt who actually did something illegal and unethical.

Every maker gets their fair share of bashing as far as I can tell.

Aero-bad pattern!
SB-thieves!
Vanson-Crap hide!
FC-bad pattern and worse leather!
Himel-stupid price!
Goodwear-can’t deliver!
Langlitz-fat guy jacket!
Schott-cheap…. but also…too expensive!

You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain around here. LOL. What strikes me is how personal we all take it (myself included). We all like what we like and defend it, period. I think it’s both fun and funny all at once.

funny it’s exactly what I learned from my searching the forum.
Funny too because all have their strong points in the market for different reasons and all have made jackets that look great on one person or another.

Crown Zippers, to the LW owners out there, are they really as smooth as people say?

I will literally only recommend Vanson & Lost Worlds 'cause they're the best there is (maybe Langlitz, too, though it depends on my mood that day). I won't even tell people to buy Schott even though I love them. But the fact remains I hate LW from the bottom of my heart and I hope the company goes under.

You see, that´s always the thing that puzzles me: Why are some people so passionate about his demeanor.

I can't help being passionate about it because... It's what I'm passionate about. Fashion is my hobby, simple as that. I love it and naturally, I am passionate about it and I want to talk about it.
Personally, I don't care much for the whole if you don't like it, move on approach because discussing jackets, makers, etc. is what this place is all about. Simply only giving thumbs up while ignoring things that ain't our cup of tea would make TFL a snore-fest, which is what it used to be. It's counterproductive and I honestly, I feel this forum has evolved a lot once people actually began criticizing things they didn't like, even if it meant the departure of some long standing members. And you know what? Good riddance. That guy leaving for VLJ because another guy hurt his feelings by saying his leather jacket sucks... Lol!
Just look how WJAYWT evolved! It was a laughing stock just a few years ago but now each new page is somehow even better than the last. I'm following a few WAYWT threads on Reddit & seriously, we're not lagging behind.

Lol but... All true.

And hey, Goodwear! There's a name we haven't heard in a while.

Full cowhide hard belt was also originally sold as an xtra item for the 50's Buco J-24 and that's fair.
LW only makes soft belt so it literally makes no difference for them whether it's attached or not. Good hard belt costs money, there's no denying that but that's not what LW's going to sell you for $250 apiece.

Important point. The detachable belt of my 60s Beck is stiff bridle leather or something, not jacket material.

After reading your comment. I had to double check the original post question " Thinking about Lost Worlds.. thoughts, experiences?" For a person who does not want to participate. You definitely show YOUR views, never mind addressing the question at hand.

Crown zippers are quite smooth - at least the spring-loaded #10 main on my J23.
Rest of the smaller Crowns are comperable to Talon repros on my other jackets

Do be advised that some Crown zippers are not "pretty" to look at (mine are dull grey) but solid in function.

I once owned a goatskin raider, beautifully made jacket. Sold it on the forum due to a fit issue, size 42, I wonder who owns it now, I would certainly buy the same jacket in a size 44,

I Like LW belt. I would only pay for the belt made for the Trojan. I think is a top of the line "ranger" type belt that is very well constructed. It is worth the price. However, having made some some belts my self, I know it takes a long time and effort to produce them. There are many options to have in this very competitive market. There are sellers in Etsy and Ebay who can produce a great belt for under $80 dollars. Makers like Cal leathers do make their own belts now but my originals from the 60's had a label from a Montebello Ca. manufacturer.

Now the topic about buco belts. They are nothing very special to me. Simple 1.5 Garrison/US post office type of belt. Often used in US military as well with minor modifications. The only special addition to the belt is the straps.
It took some effort but a was able to locate the same type of rivets used by Buco to hold the belt straps which in my view along with the very rounded belt tip, the most distinguishable part of the garrison belt.
Because I wanted to make something very close to the original buco belt Two years ago, I created several belts and shared with friends and one or two members here all of my findings. But that is a different topic.

Boston leathers makes a very nice garrison belt for under $30. The 6505 model comes also in tan.

I was reading your post that brought up some questions. Do you know many people who rant about LW and purchased SB? Also, what leads you to conclude people who comment about lost worlds lack the OPINION to do so?
