Happy 1st day of 2023. This morning's walkabout found me under the brim of a Mallory homburg. The inky blue and burgundy ribbon stand out. Wearing it early morning made me feel very well hatted. Proudly wearing my homburg.

Home and outside enjoying a cup of coffee I was under the brim of a 30's Canadian made Kennsington. This shorter brimmed hat, 2.25" has unique crown features on the gorgeous blue thicker napped felt. The side feature provide a visual high crown look. The stitched brim is excellent. Each time I take the hat out of the protective covering I marvel at the brilliant embossing and liner.

Cheers from my nieghborhood in Minnesota, USA, Eric -
Beautiful hats to start the year, Eric. Happy New Year.

Yesterday afternoon I had an errand to do and found myself under a Mallory hat made with a gorgeous dark blue felt.

Happy New Year to you too Eric! It appears you had a very good time last night as one of the two Mallorys appears to be a Dobbs and the other a Cavanagh. ;);)

Hoping things are more in focus as the day winds down and wishing you a 2023 filled with more hats than you can keep track of. :D

I didn’t even notice that. Unfortunately, I make similar mistakes with my eBay listings. It occurs with shocking regularity.

Great looking Gannon fedora!!! Love it’s colors!

On a side note:
I’ve been meaning ask one of you guys; do any FL members ever buy hats from Hufvud? I’ve visited their site several times and their hats look awesome! The felt looks of higher quality than usual for modern hats—and they always seem to pair up some killer colors for their gorgeous lids.
And if no one buys them, I’m curious to know why.
I don’t see y’all talk or post about them much. Maybe they’re not as good as they look in the vids and pics?

I never buy modern hats, so I’m not interested, but if I ever did I think I might check one out.

I like them a lot, and he does indeed make a nice hat. I don’t know that his hats are any better than some domestic custom hatters, and I don’t know that FEPSA felt always makes a superior hat compared to Winchester (I don’t think it always does).

I’ve thought about getting back in the Hufvud queue several times, but it’s a very competitive market at his pricing and I always end up going in a different direction.

Thanks for the info, Brent. I know very little about new felts. But one day, in my home builder retirement future, I hope to find out more.
Says he’s only been selling custom hats since 2017.
You can sure see a difference in craftsmanship from his earlier hat postings from 2018 to his latest postings in 2022.

I changed oil and filter on my snowblower while under the brim of a Portis "The New Slant."

i-rcznjcP-M.jpg

"The New Slant" does not have a unique blocking, rather depends on the user to crease a slant in the hat. This crease allows it the hat to align with it's marketed name. I have been pushing and prying the felt into a slant since the vintage hat came to my hat rack.
