Thanks Mark...You were one of the inspirators for the Route 66. A few years ago you could get an original Crown zipper from Aero for an extra £50. I doubt that you could get one these days...
Hi,
I used to own both of ELC's 55J14 & M422A. In my opinion both were generously cut compared to the originals & the goatskin used were way too thick compared to the originals. It may be that you'll find these "inaccuracies" in most repros. Why not try to get yourself an original 55J14?
Thanks Winward. Yours look just like mine in terms of wear, grain, etc.
It's taking me a couple of years of wear (granted I don't wear it every day as I have other jackets) to "tame" Aero's FQHH. Incidentally this is my only FQHH jacket.
I think the fact that it's in vintage brown colour...
Here are some pics of the jacket after a couple of years...
The leather is a lot more relaxed now, though if it's not worn for some time, it becomes somewhat stiff again...but the stiffness will disappear as soon as it gets worn. There is still a degree of puffiness, however, due to the...
Amanda probably is going to suggest that you break the jacket in first... I personally think the jacket fit is fine. Different people like different fit... The sleeves are going to get shorter as the leather creases... so be aware of that. Looking at the photos, you probably won't be able to...
Hi,
I'm 0.5" shorter than you. I personally would go with 25", especially if you're going to have it in FQHH. With 25" the sleeves are going to be a tad too long initially, but once the leather creases on the sleeves it will be perfect. If you were to use goatskin, which doesn't crease, I...
I would say yes, Aero sizes are generous!
Sounds like we're the same size. Most of my jackets have armpit-armpit measurement of 21 to 22 inches.
My last jacket from Aero (Half-belt deluxe) ended up having a 38 tag but actually made from size 36 pattern with smaller turnings. Get a...
I'm lucky because I was quoted a price by Amanda about a week before the increase. Just placed the order now, but she said they would honour the already-quoted price.
To be honest, for people who are willing to spend £500+ for a leather jacket, an increase of £100 won't stop most of them...
You do know that you won't be charged for the jacket you order until the jacket is shipped to you? It's going to take them 4-5 months to finish the jacket. So if you really want it, you can order now & will have 4-5 months to save up for the jacket...
Phil,
Since you're in the UK, I think the suggestion for an Aero is a good one. However, Aero sizing can be hit and miss. Don't go by the tag size (fit is extremely generous for most models), instead use your actual measurements. Better yet, get a tailor to take your measurements.
Note...
Ian,
The boxy shoulders I think are due to the stiff leather... I have the same jacket in mid-weight horsehide & it's doesn't look boxy at all... Should be ok once the leather breaks in...
Great looking jacket!
OC, do you have a jacket that fits you well? A jacket that you really like? If so, take measurements, and use them to design your next jacket. Be careful however as different jacket patterns will fit differently.
I normally would wear a size 40 A-2 (ELC, GW, etc.) but with Aero's utility...
The quick answer is yes, but it will not look exactly like that.
There are existing Aero halfbelt jackets that look very similar to the one in the pictures so probably they will modify their existing jacket to look more like what you want (i.e., changing the angle/position of the pockets...
