Thanks for all the further ideas gentlemen. I'll take them all into consideration.
Last night I found my school library has a few old books on tailoring:
-"Minor and major alterations and how to make them" by Mutolese, Michael. (1950)
-"Tailoring suits the professional way" by Poulin...
That's an idea. I would like some sort of hands on instruction, but the issue is I am at college for the next 3 years (limited hobby time), and after that I will be on Wall Street with zero spare time, haha.
Hi everyone,
I was thinking to myself tonight, if there's one hobby that would be awesome, it would be tailoring. Is it realistic or even possible to become a tailor by learning completely on my own? Where do I even start? I have 0 aspirations to work for anyone as a tailor, I'd just like...
How do the shoulders feel? I'm trying to get an idea (visually) of how 30s/40s suits look when you lift up your arms. I hear they don't pull up the whole suit like they do these days.
Thanks so much everyone for your responses! I've been working on my wardrobe and have found a few looks that I enjoy a lot! I'll have to post photos sometime :)

I considered him, but I've read a few threads here that have had serious issues. It would be an option yes, but $500 is still alot...
Damn I'm startin' to give up here on the idea of a 40's style suit...it seems that either it's going to be way too expensive for a college student like me, or if I try from an online place, it won't come out right. :eusa_doh:
Doesn't look like that place carries Tweed for any fabrics, but they do have flannel.
As for the cut, they have options in further menus for whatever their standard cut is, and a "British Canvas" construction. From the description it sounded like older methods of putting together suits. Would...
Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about buying my first suit from mycustomtailor.com. They have an array of fabrics to use, but I have no idea what to have my suit made in. Here's a link: http://mycustomtailor.com/fabrics.php?styleID=9593 Which would be closest to what was worn in the 40s and...
