What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

The El Principe is fine as a short smoke. You won't get the same experience as an El Morro but it is decent with notes of chocolate, nutmeg and leather. Medium bodied.
You can always send me a Black Prince to review.
Mr Powers, I purchased a very nice pipe for my Husband, it is a Savinelli, he has smoked it a few times. Said the pipe was great and had no "bite" while even smoking it the first time. Guess that is a good thing. However the tobacco I purchased was some navy blend Mac Baren Plumcake. I am sure he likes the way it smokes, but the reason for that type of tobacco was aroma....for some reason this Plumcake is not what was expected. Many years ago he had some pipe tobacco that was called Plumcake and it would be just like a cake coming out of the oven, not at all like this tobacco. Is there any suggestion as to how to find the right plumcake? He does not recall the name brand, and actually it was old yet in a never opened tin when he did smoke it, was a small squared shape tin. The Brand name he does not recall. It was some very moist tobacco. Any help or suggestions would be really a big help. The Plumcake he had that was so nice smelling was purchased at of all places, Disneyland when they used to have a smoke shop on Main Street...(many years ago is right)! lol!

I was hopeful you may have known what the pipe tobacco was name brand. Doing internet searches for Plumcake seems to come back to the Mac Baren. The Mac Baren is not a nasty smell or anything negative, however not giving off any of the "plumcake" aroma.
One search for tobacco took me to some website that seems to have a lady that does custom blending and has something of a sample package for what she will make for her customers. I've thought of contacting her and seeing what custom formula she may be able to whip up. My only concern is that if what she would make had some "old boot" flavor, that perhaps Daniel would not like to smoke it and would have wasted some $40.00. As it is, I have to load the pipe (learned how to do that easily enough) and help get him on the back porch so he can smoke it, and I found something to use as a tampering device....had to be creative and was pleased to find something around the house that would work as a tampering device. I'll have to take a few pictures and post later today.

A custom blend would work but you would have to be there to make sure it was right. Over the phone or internet don't work well for tobacco blending.
I have a pipe tool with a tamp and other such things but anything shaped like a nail would work. Not too much pressure when you get to the top. If it draws fine you did well.

I actually have an alligator with the bent stem. I used it yesterday with some Perique.
The bolt works.
If it was a stainless steel bolt then you would be spoiling him. Not sure that we have any stainless steel bolts, I could perhaps dig through some of the tool boxes to see. But I felt the bolt for use as a tamper for now works for his smoking the pipe fairly well. His hand "motor skills" are still fairly poor, so I just load the pipe and help get it going for him and when it needs to have the tobacco tampered down, I do that for him.
Oh so you have a similar pipe, but your stem is bent? I can about bet that is not going to be easy to fix.
Where we are living now, there is no close by tobacco shops at all. So I have no idea where I would even be able to find a sample of pipe tobacco that would have the rich "baked plumcake" aroma. I sure wish Daniel could recall the name brand of the pipe tobacco from a long time ago, we know it was perhaps from Denmark as the Mac Baren brand is from. I have no idea who can do any pipe repair for your bent stem. Maybe you can find a new one for replacement? I do see a lot of pipe racks for sale, although I just keep Daniel's pipe in the box it came in when not in use. However, I bet if you used a pipe rack, it would help you avoid bending any stems on pipes. Just be more careful with your pipes.

My all-time favorite, NEVER disliked by those around me (unless it's a person who is simply against ANY smoking) is their "Black and Gold" blend. It's an aromatic with a vanilla casing that in my many years of smoking always seems to appeal to the fairer gender. I needed all the help I could get!

Oh I understand now. I had thought that you had some bad luck and may have sat or stepped on your pipe! LOL!
That is a nice pipe, seems to be made by the same Italian pipe maker as well!
From what I understand about pipes, when you first start smoking a new one, and they have no offensive "bite" that is a sign of a really nice pipe.
I see a fairly fancy pipe for sale that looks like a white indian head all sculpted hand carved with a bright yellow stem for sale that is brand new, and has a hard closing case with it. I am thinking of buying for Daniel as from what I am reading up on, a person smoking a pipe should have some "back up" pipes to rotate smoking them. Sort of like what a person does with shoes.....do not wear the same ones over and over every day. However, with a pipe, your feet don't get sore! LOL!!!!

Probably a Meerschaum pie. Mine is one they call The Turk. I have plenty in rotation. I must have about fifty or so.
I use one pipe for each blend that I have. It keeps them from cross contamination but I also do that because I have so many. For just a cheap decent smoking and smelling tobacco I go for an Argosy Black or Field and Stream. House of Windsor makes these blends.

No clue about that stuff...but it does not sound like much to desire to smell. The more I seek out tobacco, the more I am seeing that it must be about a zillion brands and types. We have some sort of a "cherry blend" that the person selling the pipe to me, sent for Daniel to try. I think it is a bit nice but after a while it starts to smell sort of like that cheap perfume some old lady at a funeral home would be wearing....sort of "stifling"...makes you want to get up and run from it.

Wow. Look at those cigars! I am sure those are nice and all. I have always been careful about purchasing anything that is in too fancy a box, though....because some times the cost of the box was where all the real expense went to on the total purchase price. I know ZERO about cigars though. I have a few really expensive ones I purchased for Daniel years ago, they are stashed in his work desk. One was way too darn expensive but the seller told me they are rare and hard as all get out, to even find. Maybe someone stole them from Ol' Castro himself? LOL I just looked at the small paper that came with the Cigar with a name, I cannot make out what all this name is as the person had some poor handwriting skills, but it looks like the name Cohibo something like that is part of the name of the cigar. Paid around $40.00 for it. I expect it to lay a golden egg for that kind of money.

Cohiba are indeed some of the most expensive cigars out there---aside for some of the pre-embargo Cubans. Interesting thing about the name is that Cohiba is derivative of what the Taino Indians called tobacco---not cigars.
