Went to visit my sister in Houston last week and while I was there we caught the new X-men movie.
I really enjoyed it, think it is one of the best of the series. Love the new take on the Sentinels, very cool.

Also watched the Muscle Shoals documentary. What a great film! I highly recommend it. It will soon be in my DVD collection. I hope that the difficulties are overcome that are plagueing the attempt to make a documentary of the "Wrecking Crew". The story of the L.A. session cats needs to be told as much as that of The Swampers and The Funk Brothers. I'd also love to see a documentary made about The Meters and the early New Orleans music scene that gave birth to Funk. These people are getting old and we are losing them, their stories need to be told before they are all gone.

I would also recommend Kenny Wayne Sheperd's movie, "10 Days Out: Blues From The Back Roads" another excellent documentary.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). I'd seen parts of it here and there over the years, but this was the first time I'd seen it start to finish in one sitting. I haven't seen a lot of Bogart's work, so after seeing The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, and The Big Sleep, it was interesting to see him play a character who's not particularly likeable. He did have the best hat in the movie though. :D

Caught up on a few recent movies. 12 Years a Slave. Great movie. Takes you on quite a compelling journey.

Wolf of Wall Street. Very good. Not for everyone though. Full of gratuitous sex, nudity and drugs.

Kill Bill 1 and 2
Just never got around to watching these. Some amazing fight scenes and cool story.

I thought, when you said a documentary about, "Wrecking Crew," I thought you meant the original group. Still, I do like The Funk Brothers and Booker T. and the M.G.'s!

While "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" is a classic - and I understand why - I can't watch it (even though I enjoyed it the first time I saw it) - it just doesn't work for me now, I'm bored during it. That said, I really enjoy Bogey as a bad guy in the very good, complicated and nuanced "Petrified Forest." Zombie - if you want to see another Bogey as bad guy film - this one is worth seeing. And a very young Betty Davis and Leslie Howard bring their A-game in it as well. I can watch this movie over and over again. "High Sierra" is also a decent Bogey as bad guy film as well (but PF is my favorite of these).

As I understand it Bogart played a number of "bad guy" roles until The Maltese Falcon came along, after which he was branded as an "anti-hero" (the first to be called such according to Leonard Maltin) rather than a "bad guy". It's a shame more of these movies aren't broadcast more often; I could spend a small fortune amassing Bogart's movies on DVD if I chose to do so. They Drive By Night and High Sierra will be on TCM next week, so I'll be able to view those soon; I suppose any others will be "catch as catch can" for now.

TCM plays "The Petrified Forest" reasonably frequently as well - so just keep checking its schedule.

A few weeks ago I saw an exhibit of Struzan's work (at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, CA, of all places!) that featured some of his more well-known movie poster art (without all of the text obscuring it) and some lesser-known works. I've always liked his work, but I gained much more of an appreciation having seen them up-close.

Sorry for the delay in replying, haven't been paying attention to the Lounge recently.
I liked the theatrical release, and liked the director's cut as well. There were several scenes with John Wilkes Booth that, while interesting, did not seem to move the film along.
As an amateur history fan, I enjoyed seeing the events that shaped our nation played out on a large canvas. There are several scenes with Stonewall Jackson (such as when he receives his orders to leave VMI for the army, and when he receives news of the passing of the young girl) that affect me.

Haven't seen that in many, many years. I noticed it the other night on netflix and thought briefly about revisiting.

Earlier tonight I watched Frozen with my daughters (5 & 8). I think they certainly enjoyed it more than I did, but it was a nice evening. I'm getting a little burnt on that song though.
