I actually don't care much of 3 1/2" brim hats but you know... it was a western any way.
If you don't want the Stagecoach liner, can I have it?

I have never owned a Resistol Stagecoach before so I bought the one in the auction below to check one out. Don't worry Joao, I don't plan on trimming the brim! I do plan on changing the crease though. I was thinking it has enough of a crown to put a nice Gus crease in it. I haven't received the hat yet but I have a question for those of you who have worked on them before. Should I just use steam to change the crease or can I lightly spray the hat with distilled water? I have found that on my vintage Stetsons it is easier to make a radical crease change by spraying the hat with distilled water but I didn't know if that could damage the felt on a newer hat like the Stagecoach. I'm guessing that distilled water won't hurt, judging by some of the conversions I have seen in this thread. Thanks for your help.

Hey there Mike, you should be just fine with the StageCoach hat...we have one here but I am sure it is much stiffer than the one you just purchase. It needs a cleaning really badly, but they do shape if you steam them a bit and of course any distilled water will work ok. Just make sure you have hat sponged any issues of soil or dirt on it, if needed before you spray.

All of the hat work done lately here on the Conversion Corral is amazing.
We have a Stage Coach hat, a very typical model of those, has a matching edge binding with the wide hat ribbon. It has a decent felt to it, stiff as most westerns are, and this hat is enormous, but...we have done nothing at all to it. It is in not too bad of shape....my thoughts are, can it be made more a 7 3/8 as it is now a fairly tight 7 1/2? If so....who would elect to handle the work for this and as you all read, there is one person here who seems to love the Stage Coach hats....we would love to "donate" this hat to that person...please don't be shy as to letting me know if the hat can be made a wee bit smaller without too much trouble and what the cost would be it able to do so. I'll take a few pictures and post them here later. We would love to see it go to a home where someone would wear it, and do not mind spending the money to "fix it up" and paying for it to be shipped across the pond....lol! Thanks!

I just now hunted this hat from the closet...and I am seeing the size tag on the hat is a 7 3/8 size! SO....it should fit a 7 3/8 head size if worn a week or two, you know that Resistol hats are "self conforming" and I am sure after being worn it will come into a proper size...lol! But I have to do some hat sponging on it...that need to be done. The hat is not really dirty but has some really light spots on it that need some attention.
So...for our fabulous friend that lives in Portugal...when this hat is "up to par"...will be shipped heading your way some time this upcoming next week! The hat is a fairly nice condition...no moth bites...the leather is well attached from what I can see on the sweat band...and as I can clean up some very light spots that need it, should be in a 9.5 out of 10 super good condition!
You know we want you to just have something really nice coming to you, in the spirit of your "fellow loungers" !!!

I now understand why Daniel never wore the hat, it is just a bit too tight, and he did not want to hat jack the hat.
The Stage Coach hats are built like tanks! I just now spent maybe 2o minutes using a hat sponge and some Scout Hat Powder cleaner on it...wow...I already removed the light spots on it...and will do some more over the next few days so the felt will be that nice "silverbelly" and not like dingy at all.
Had we decided to keep this hat, eventually it maybe would have been "sliced and diced" into a Fedora ..but now...it can be sent to someone that will love it as is. It sure is a lot of hat.
You'd be amazed at what I have learned about hats, and even how to steam, iron, clean and "bash" them !
Same with shoes....but Daniel just still shakes too much to do some things on his own. Can't give him a shot glass of Jack Daniel's in it, unless it would be to spray/spill it all over the place..lol! But in many ways, he has been improving and is getting around a bit more now.

I like the crease on yours and I don't mind to have two equal hats with different creases (I have one just like it but It's almost the same with all my black hats
). I would love to wear it and will accept it. It is a eye turn hat because of that ribbon.

It's not a Stagecoach, it's a 3x beaver western with the same dimensions of a Stagecoach. I have one in black with +4" brim.
It can handle the Gus crease very well, crown big enough!

Stagecoaches make nice conversions. The felt on those hats are really nice and they're tough....
Here's a couple of my Stagecoach conversions. This is an Indy type conversion from a 4X Stagecoach that John Galt did for me, except that I keep changing out the crease, lowering the crown, and changing the ribbon John did a real nice job on it though. It's the most comfortable hat I have....
Here's my other Stagecoach. This a conversion that I did myself using the latest in paint can blocking technology. I also sewed on a Khaki mid-ribbon....
