This old Echter Borsalino soft felt + case is on the way. It appears to be in near mint condition with a very interesting over welt and fantastic bow. The auction photos are all open crown. I think it could be from the 1920s so very rare.

I received a highly anticipated hat today that I knew had two small moth larvae nibbles. It came nicely packed in a plastic bag inside the original box. When I opened the bag to inspect the hat I noticed about a dozen of what appear to be larval cases and the hat has extensive shallow moth tracking all over the outer surface. I immediately put the hat back in the plastic bag, back in the hat box, back in the packing box and sealed it with tape then requested a refund from the seller. The seller is not someone I have done business with before but they sell hats routinely, have good feedback and I have no reason to believe they acted with any malice.

I have a collection of roughly 50 felt hats and this is something that has worried me for some time. How do you folks practice safe hat? I've considered putting new arrivals in quarantine before letting them join my others. I've also considered giving the hats a microwave treatment but don't know if I would damage the hats before doing in the insects. I know many of you here buy hats from all over the country/world, what do you do to protect your hats from insect infestation?
