In my quest for leather jackets, and my ever-changing ideas of what I actually want in a jacket, I have come across a couple of very interesting finds. One is from J.C. Penney, found at www.jcpenney.com . Go to the men's clothing, jackets, and then leather sections (the address for the individual jacket is really long, and I don't want to type it!), and you will find "Columbia Retro Hipster leather jacket" for $199.99. No tall sizes for me in this jacket, but some of you more ordinarily-formed individuals might like this. It's very '30's/'40's looking (and, of course, rather "Indy-esque", naturally!). Brown leather with patch front pockets with flaps and slash pockets on the outside of the patch pockets, as you will see on period jackets (and Aero's "half belt deluxe", for far more moolah). I think it's a pretty good lookin' jacket and worth checkin' out.
Now, when I get a hankerin' for a '50's style jacket (and I will....), I'll go to www.johnsonleather.com and get their number M-200 jacket. It's a nice '40's/'50's style jacket. Slash hand pockets, and a breast pocket. And glory be, they're glad to make it in tall sizes for not too much more (20%), and they told me they have SIX shades of brown for me to choose from!!! The base price is $365, and it's American made.
As I have struggled with what features I do and don't want in the "perfect" vintage-styled jacket, I ended up working myself right back to the Indy jacket, one of which I am already waiting on from Wested. It's a very basic '30's style jacket.
