Morning temperatures were below zero in the harbor so it was plenty cold. Whatever insulation or lining the Navy spec’ed for it’s “cold weather” deck jacket works remarkably well, especially with the zip-up padded collar that blocks out wind and seals out the cold.

Thor, I agree. The USN’s modern deck jacket is one of the warmest, most comfortable military jackets I’ve ever owned. I bought one off of eBay several years ago. Apparently, it was once aboard the Ronald Reagan. It’s a size XXL, so now it’s awfully large on me. But I like it so much, so far, I’ve refused to store it away...even though it’s outgrown me.

AF

Post edit: I just found a size XL on eBay for a reasonable BIN. So one’s now coming that will hopefully fit me better.

My B-3 has been doing very well in this weather. I've worn it every day since we started getting the arctic air. Today I wore it with just a t-shirt on under it. No complaints!
I might have to look into one of those sheepskin jackets. Maybe the Chicago winters of old are back. It would seem so, with no signs of a reading above freezing in sight. Makes me want to stay inside and drink dark brown beer.

You absolutely need to. These things save lives. Similar winters where I am. I still deeply regret not getting whatever sheepskin instead of the CR. CR I can wear only about two weeks in autumn and two weeks in spring. At best. Anything in between is either a T-shirt or 11 layers of textile. Or one sheepskin. My next Aero, provided I'll ever have enough money for it, is going to be an Irvin.

Visited America’s only “castle” today, Lyndhurst Manor in Tarrytown, NY on a freezing cold snowy day. My Navy deck jacket was up to the task and kept me warm and dry. Wool-lined Geier gloves and flannel-lined khakis were mandatory in the frigid weather. A fun day of exploration despite the winter freeze!

Posted this yesterday on How Many Jackets do you Have Coming. If listing on 2 different threads, or if my posts are too photo heavy is a TFL faux pas, someone please school me.

Wearing today my (new via Fiebings) beater cheap Gap NOS Trucker, that is now black, instead of a really dull brown.
