I own a ton of leather and keep my eyes open all the time and like @ton312 i barely wear them. But for me it’s weather related. We have several months of winter and in Buffalo it’s real winter. Where there’s tons of snow, wind, rain, freezing which makes most leathers irrelevant. Then spring comes and it rains and I could but I’d rather not soak them through constantly. Then summer where it gets incredibly hot, so no then. So like I have such limited wear time. But my goal this year is in those tiny windows to actually wear the damn things!

I was talking (actually e-mailing) with Watanabe-san from Genco Clothing Japan (info@genco-clothing.com) and he was really fast in responding and settling the PayPal payment (less than half a day). 8% VAT were deducted and he sent PayPal payment invoices which was very easy - he will ship the jacket tomorrow by EMS (already received the tracking number). He had 2ea size 40 in stock till today and has more rude black Shinki (size 38,40, 44), vintage Brown Shinki (size 38) and also black deerskin (size 42) in stock. Here are the links.

I think it'll make a nice summer weight jacket. Things I'm not sure about: would a Hooch Hauler back be overkill? Should I stick with the black cotton, keeping the East-West vibe that I think the Wayfarer has, or go for an ultra-bright tartan?

I’d stick with black and leave the back alone personally. There’s a lot going on up front. No need to add to the back, maybe a yoke (if it doesn’t already have one). Personally, I'd stick with the stock back pattern on the Wayfarer - the pattern has a wonderfully interesting front, and I would be concerned that the jacket would get a bit too busy with a busy back. Or, perhaps a single point yoke in the back, rather than the stock curved pattern? That would look very nice I think. The Hooch Hauler back would be too much on a Wayfarer for me. I would also stick with the black lining with natural Vicenza. Just looks so good with the stark contrast. But I'd go sateen over drill - Aero's sateen is very nice, and durable in my experience. Less grabby than the drill. And more durable than other maker's sateen.
My struggle would be with natural Vicenza vs natural CXL. But I haven't seen natural CXL in the flesh yet.
So, maybe keep the single point yoke and the shaped half-belt? I agree on the black. I think the one above is lined with melton cloth, which is a bit warm for my purposes as I'm looking for something more 'Scottish summer' weight, so sateen is probably what I'm looking for.
Damn Colin that is a beauty, nicer than what they show on their website IMO. Would you mind posting the measurements and size? Was shipping oppressive to Canada? I’ve been holding out for a ELMC Californian but I think I may like this even better
Size M. Just e-mail them and get the ball rolling since they make the jacket for you and you can spec a longer or shorter body or sleeves. They'll ask for your measurements and a photo or two so they can gauge your body type and that is it. Just look at their site or instagram for hide types. They'll get back to you on your questions in a timely manner. Sometimes a week may go by but the guy that runs the company is a busy fella.
Price was around $60 Euro to ship so not much more than shipping out of the USA.
I'd ask for a smaller zipper pull though, since the one on mine is rather large and I'd like to change it if it is possible to do so.
I think it would look good with a double point yoke (like on 30s HB) to mirror the front yoke. I think the fancy belt-strip is too much.

I couldn’t resist the sale that Vanson had running this weekend and I bought myself the Chopper that I have been drooling over for the last year or so. I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email from Kim Vanson herself telling me that they did not have the jacket in stock in the X150 leather in my size but they did have one in comp weight and would I like that instead? All of the jackets I have from Vanson have been comp weight, some of them older some of them newer, and I really like this leather.
I called this morning to speak with her to confirm that I would like the comp weight jacket, and also to make sure I have the sizing right since I fall somewhere between L and XL. She was an absolute pleasure to talk to and very helpful. Makes me all the more excited to receive this jacket!
