I made a pin for myself a while back. I wear it as both a hat pin or lapel pin, depending on what I am wearing

I cut a 1906 50 cent piece into shape. the stones 4 emeralds, each 1/2 kt, and a 1/4 kt diamond.

Here's my go at it!

I decided to put a bar-backed pin on the Akubra. Here it is with a United Airlines 100,000 mile propliner pin. It is hard to see fine detail but it is a generic four radial-engined propliner, like a DC-4 through DC-7, B-377 or B-309, maybe). It fits nicely behind a loop on the leather band.:D

I'm Sold!

I had never considered the use of hat pins . . . in fact, the few I have seen were of the garden variety "brand name" and I usually took them off . . .

But I like what I am seeing here . . . I think they personalize and add a nice little detail to the hats. So I am sold . . .

I would love to add an oil derrick pin to my OR ...
And a Strat pin to my Stratoliner ...
And how about a guitar (I play . . . badly, but I like it) an my favority Disney ...
And maybe a Route 66 . . .
Well, the list goes on.
Now the question is . . . Where to find them?

I am on the lookout for a pin that reflects my rural and farming back ground. I will be sure to keep you all posted on the results of my search!

I picked up an International Harvester pin on eBay. I don't have a rural/farming background being from the Los Angeles area, but I now live on what used to be my wife's grandparent's farm and have an IH tractor from the '60s.

Cheers,
Tom

I haven't either, but am now. I'm not sure whether or not to put them on hats I would wear with a suit or if they are for more "informal" applications, though.

As to where to find them... eBay, of course! ;)

Cheers,
Tom

I have been looking all over for this one. It was given to me by my Dear Mother many years ago, and I had put it away so I would not lose it. I did a fine job of putting it away, it only took me about a month to find it. It obviously has sentimental value to me, not to mention how pretty it is. It was hand painted for her by an artist in the Smokey Mountains. Without further ado

:eek:fftopic: Thanks Douglas, do not know much about the hat. It is an unlined summer weight I picked up at a antique store a year ago. It still has its $10.00 price tag attached.
