...Anyone ever put a playing card in their ribbons?

Playing card, no. But, just for laughs, every once in a while I've stuck one of those phony baloney "PRESS" cards on one of my hats:

Co-workers and friends who appreciate old movies got the gag immediately, others looked puzzled for a while until they worked up the nerve to ask me about it.

One of my favourite 3Stooges episodes (or was it the Marx Bros?) had two of them with the fake "Press" in their hat ribbon that they stole from a door. The third one had a "Pull" sign. As a kid I thought that was about the funniest thing I had ever seen.

I picked up a Montana Silversmith Hat Pick at Buckaroo Hatters this past Friday.

Had a jeweler convert some enamel pins into hat pins so that they would slip flat behind the ribbons.

On the left is a mythological sphinx holding the head of a man that failed to correctly answer her riddle. The pin on the right is a harpy.

It was indeed The Stooges. They used the gag in one short with Curly, and again with Shemp after Curly had to retire.

I just bought a hat for this awesome hat pin (NOT the first time).
Plus is much older than the hat it came with.
(Now begs the question, "Which hat do I place this on"?, .........will have to be answered another day.........

Wondering if this is formed from one piece of ribbon or is the bow formed separately and attached?

On most of the hats I've seen with a Campaign Bow the bow was separate from the Crown Ribbon and set in-place as the Ribbon was attached to the hat, then in specific spots the bow was attached (sewn) to the hat in order to retain it's shape. One of these days I'll get myself a hat with a thin ribbon and a Campaign Bow...not that I'll campaign...or bow...

All this talk of Campaign Bows made me get out my 1889/99 (edit) 5X Beaver Campaign Hat.....It had been away for a while. I Brushed up, re-freshened the flange and re-creased it in a nice deep double gutter. I am glad this subject came up as it will now be back in rotation to WEAR!

Thank you, Mark. It’s a 1990/1991 Worth-Walden 15X. The dimensions & the blocking were perfect for a Campaign hat style popular in the post-Civil War era.
