Spent a beautiful afternoon out & about under a Resistol Waco DoubleX. Finally made it to HH, rewarding my good behavior with a few drams of Lagavulin 16.

I remember when Boulevard Chocolate Ale came out for the first few yrs it was only available during the holiday season, & it was rationed because availability was limited. The first time I really ever had one was about yr 5 or so when it showed up on tap. I saw it on tap & the bartender comped me one. Don't hear much about it now.

I'm glad you tried a Speyside to compare against the Islay, DD. DoubleWood is a good one & always score high. And you paired it well.
A tip of my hat for your recommendation! The food pairing is most enjoyable. Last week I smoked a Tri tip over mesquite. The Ardbeg Wee Beastie really was a perfect pairing.

Thanks for that! If you eat a lot of fresh seafood you might enjoy the characteristics of a Campbelltown Single Malt. It is lighter in Peat smoke than an Islay, but has a mild amount of sea salt & sea air on the palate. It's also a bit oily giving it a thicker mouth feel. BB might enjoy it too. I don't eat much fresh sea food so I just don't drink it. No Sherry or Oak influences like most of the Speysides.

Thanks, Ed. My experience with JD goes back to the mid 70’s when I was selling welding supplies to the maintenance division at the production and bottling plants. I started drinking it when the employees, who received one free pint a month would often want to trade theirs for a few pounds of rods or some work gloves. Seemed fair to me. Then JD was 92 proof. The State stopped the giveaway as JD is produced in a dry county. This tastes closer to the original than what’s offered today. The vanilla and caramel notes are easy to discern right off and they achieved a real smoothness with this one even at an octane rating of 94. Rich across the tongue with a little more sweetness than #7 but not too much. The maple charcoal is present as ever. I like it. Not sure the neighbors think of Stapleton when they hear me.

Couple of favorites right there, Cuz. It was a fine evening for some sunset sitting yesterday, too.

For a rainy afternoon the Gannon Highwayman replaced the Derby, & called for an early dinner of pork carnitas leaving more time for
Tequila. Siete Leguas Blanco fits the bill with 100% pure blue agave cooked in clay ovens, no nectars added.

After all, "The waiting is the hardest part".

Backing up the Siete Leguas is a bottle of Tequila Uno t1 Blanco Selecto, just in case.
