Well, it took me a little longer than the traditional "4-year" degree time frame (just under 7 years for me), but I managed to earn my BS in Mechanical Engineering. It was tough, but I managed to work the whole time and put myself through. (A special "Thank You" to the woman who is now my wife for her support and encouragement.)

I am now working as an engineer and am fortunate to be using pieces of my education every day.

Currently at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. It is a fine school, where I designed my own major by taking equal parts marketing and visual media arts courses to end up with what I call "Media Business Management". Essentially, I am taking marketing from an entertainment perspective, and using my visual media arts side to get a firm grasp on producing and business. It's rather enjoyable! Cheers,

Earl Nightengale

I always remember one of my heros Earl Nightingale saying "Find and follow your bliss". Sometimes your "Bliss" means extra education. Some Blisses don't require you to have extra education. I was a horrible student, including failing three grade levels before finally dropping out of High school and getting a GED.
I can't say that not having an education has hurt me professionally or personally. I also can't say that not having an education has helped me professionally or personally

i have a BA in Women's Studies from CSU Long Beach. it took me 8 years (and about 4 other colleges along the way) before i finally picked a major and graduated. i worked my whole way through, so i never really had a "college experience" as people talk about it. i took a couple years off after graduating, moved to portland, and now i'm finishing up prerequisites for the graduate teacher education program at PSU - i plan to teach elementary school.

You're about my age, I think, Marty, late forties? I think that part of the issue here may be that you and I were educated before differences in learning styles were well understood or incorporated into teaching practice. I suspect that nowadays, in the right school and with sensitive teachers, your particular learning style would be recognized and you would fly right through high school and college, too. We understand these things a lot better nowadays; this is one area in which progress has been made.

As it happened, my own learning style was ideally suited to the educational paradigm that then existed. So I was lucky in that respect, and I know it.

That is your hypothesis. Thought about teaching Science? I did.

Have a BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH aka University At Home) A BBA from Georgia State and A BS in Biology from Kennesaw State.

Learned to write passably well with from the History Minor at UAH and to apply the scientific method to problem solving from Kennesaw State. Georgia State was 4 years of wasting my time two evenings a week for four years. :eusa_doh:

I use the Sci Method and the writing nearly every day at the bank I work for here in Atlanta.

I graduated from Drake University with a BFA in Drama/Speech, minor in Education. Also, I took graduate courses at Drake, SUNY Plattsburgh in upstate NY, University of Northern Iowa in Library Science for one summer, and in 1967-1968 I took classes at the University of Iowa in Theatre Arts, plus a Writer's Workshop class. Later I took classes at NYU and School for Visual Arts.

I have enough credits for a graduate degree but taking classes at five different universities in five different subjects, does not get one even close to earning a higher degree.

What can I say? I had a restless heart and was a vagabond for a number of years after college.

Taught school two years, was in social welfare a year in Iowa, worked in publishing in NYC and San Diego for 15 years, then worked another 18 years as a social worker for the County of San Diego and also served as a union steward for our union.

I am glad I got to go to school at a time when a college education was not out of reach for the working class. I worked summers, had help from my mother and grandmother, plus worked on campus when I could.

I have never considered my drama degree as worthless, Drama majors tend to have all sorts of interesting careers after college, some even stay in the theatre. We are articulate, know how to charm and we can think on our feet.

Well, that there is a tricky question. While going through the electrical appreniceship, I earned college credits, and so was registered as of 8 years ago in Communuty College of Southern Nevada. But, I started taking classess myself, for myself after I turned out. I am undeclared, don't have a full schedule, just take one or two per semester (this semester is class free).

cool! I went to CW Post for my undergrad.....kind of a long commute (coming in from Ronkonkoma area) but I used to love the area right near the campus - horse farms and whatnot. Really gorgeous in Spring and fall.

I definitely know there is one at UCLA, where I would like to go (who knows if that will happen!), and I believe it's an MLIS degree. I haven't really researched other grad schools that offer a specialization in Archival Studies yet, as I've only recently become interested in it. I'm going to try to get a job in the UCLA Special Collections department soon though. A friend told me they'll pay your tuition if you get into the UCLA grad school for information studies if you work for them!

I attended Saint John's University at 15 majored in Fine Arts/Graphic Design received my BFA at 19. Went on to grad school, have my Masters in Fine Arts and Masters of Science in Education. I currently work in the field of my second Masters.

I am finishing a BA in History this (school) year. I've applied to the Moving Image Archive Studies program at UCLA (an MA), and am now just waiting and hoping for good news. If that doesn't work out and I don't manage to get into film archives without training/experience, I may apply for history PhD programs.
