I had a review cigar for CW last night. I'm not sure what it is or was. It was mild, mild, mild, BUT I ACTUALLY caught a "hint" of a real flavor.

It's CW Review #3 for 2009, don't know when it'll go to press, I forgot to smoke #2.

The Reserva Real 654 is a figurado shape that measures 6.5 x 54. Construction was good, with a smooth wrapper and no obvious flaws. The initial draw was a little tight, but loosened up very quickly with no poking required. Brazilian Aripiraca wrapper and Nicaruagan filler edge this figurado to the "medium" end of its listed "mild-medium" flavor scale. Their website touts espresso flavors, sweet tobacco and floral notes. The espresso/coffee flavors are strongest of all, but the sweetness promised seemed present with a slightly sugary aftertaste.

Last night I had a Quintero toro while on a stake-out detail. Large 58 ring cigar with lots of great, thick smoke; helped hide my car.

Hoped the aroma didn't blow toward the target...

A Micoli Freehand pipe (1976) carved by Robert Eugene Burns and loaded with Orlik Golden Sliced. A pure Virginia tobacco with a very slight hint of Perique. This is about the smoothest, cleanest, highest quality smoking Virginia tobacco I have experienced. It smokes very consistently from top-to-bottom. I does provide a slight nicotine-kick. John

While taking in the first parade of the Mardi Gras season last night I enjoyed a San Cristobal de Habana La Punta......I wasn't concerned with catching beads or Moon Pies while enjoying this cigar.

.....although it was fun to watch the young ladies around me campaign for beads.

Okay let's see, Saturday while hiking in Tennessee I had a 5 Vegas Series A, Dee had a CAO Brazilia, and Jimmy the Lid had a Por Larranaga.

Saturday night after dinner at the High Point BobC provided some of his Don Lucas cigars he picked up in the Dominicas!He supplied Jimmy, Warbird, Dee, and myself! They were a great cigar good draw, long ash and even, cool burn! Great cigars and even better company!

PS; Warbird gave me a Perdomo Edicion de Silvio!

OK...Sat. night was a Fuente Hemingway classic, Sunday night was a Macanado Diplomat maduro perfecto. For lunch on both days I went with a 5 Vegas Series A toro (boxed pressed). I just ordered some Gurka Gran Reserve perfectos and they should arrive in a couple of days. These are some of my favorites. Big smoke at 6 x 60 but man I love em. Can't wait. Weather has been unseasonably mild here lately in NC. Very good cigar smokin' weather!

Started off my morning yesterday with an Ashton 8-9-8 and a great cup of Mystic Monk coffee given to me as a gift from a dear friend. Ended up my day with a fantastic La Gloria Cubana Churchill maduro. Nice rich cigar, perfect for after dinner.
