Thanks, all - it has almost the exact dimensions as my Playboy, but not quite as floppy. Feels so good that it's hard to wear anything else.

As I said in my post, I've only seen one other Super Borsolino and it was sold in the same Milan shop. I guess it's possible that it could have been a special model exclusive to that store, but we just don't have enough info to go on. And as for the date of production - who knows. I wonder if the '47' in the serial number is significant - but the size tag looks more recent than 1947. But when it comes to style - those Italians are ahead of their time!

Just lately, I found a product that completely eradicated the ink inscription on my Super Borsalino and I thought that you might want to use this product to get rid of the ink message on your Super Borsalino.

The product is called Amodex, and it will completely take off that 50 year old ink inscription. Just thought I'd share that tip with you and other fellow Fedora Loungers.

Borsalino Colombo XX...

Just got this in the mail. No one else seemed to care for it on ebay and I got it for cheap. The seller had it listed as a women's hat but judging for its shape and the side where the "bow" is (left) I disagree. I don't think I'll ever wear it as it is too stingy (and a bit small for me). I always wanted to own a Colombo and the super cool box too. Take a look and please help me to date it!

The idea that you can date an old Borsalino by taking the first two numbers from the upper right numeral of the paper stamp does not ring true.

This hat is not from 1913.

Same liner as above.
Just because sometimes the system seems correct does not make it correct. That being said, the system does work for Borsalinos made from around 1986 to present.

I actually do own a women's Borsalino and love it. I also have a brown folding Borsalino in a box already. So I decided I had different fish to fry on this particular auction.

Hey, did I mention that I'm going to be in Florence, Italy next week? I'll have a car so we're driving up to Alessandria, the home of Borsalino hats. They have a factory and hat museum that we'll visit and try to get some good photos! You'll be the first to see them after we return!

Another brown Borsalino

I've had a run of beautiful brown Borsalinos. This one came from eBay, listed as a size 7, but I failed to ask the seller if it was American or Punti sized.

Fortunately, it turned out to be American and I can wear it!

It has a Cavanagh-style edge to its 2 1/4" brim. Crown is 5" uncreased with a 2" ribbon. It's in marvelous condition - just a bit of evidence of wear on the sweat. The felt is everything we hope for in a vintage Borsalino!

Anello by Borsalino

So, in response to my questions in this thread, I've been looking online for a good felt hat, where they are often significantly less expensive than buying the equivalent model at a brick-and-mortar place inside Japan.

Over on Bencraft Hats, I've become particularly interested in a model called the Anello. I like the look of the hat (which, I admit, I am basing on a single picture at relatively low resolution), and bears at least some resemblance to another Borsalino model (which I am not well-versed enough to identify by sight, but was priced at over ¥50,000) which I tried on at Daimaru in Shinsaibashi. It's also not that far off from the hat I had been thinking of getting from a custom hatter nearby. And, you know, the price.

The only problem is, I haven't found a terribly large amount of information about the hat on the internet. There's one post in this very thread that has an actual picture, though it doesn't give me a terribly clear idea of the overall look (but it's nice to hear that the felt is soft).

So... what are the details of this hat, anyway? Is there anything I should worry about, considering its being priced below all the other Borsalino models? What about sizing compared to other brands/models? (I'm usually a 7 1/4 US, but I did notice that the Borsalino I tried on felt a little big.) In short: is this thing for real?

Hey,

I found a nice totally mint unused condition olive coloured Borsalino at a vintage clothing store.. I didn't buy it for some odd reason, but I probably am if I'm going there this weekend.

It's a Borsalino Alessandria with a quite wide brim. It said 9 in the size tag but I've no idea what it means.. The owner says its 57cm circumference.

The thing is, that I wear a 57cm and it was totally too big for me. I'd say it was a 58 or 59.

If I'm going to buy it, and it's way too big for me. Would anyone be intrested in buying it?
