cold cream is usually used as a cleanser while vanishing cream is a mattifying moisturiser (i.e. it vanishes into the skin)

Ah, simple enough. Thanks for clarifying that for me! :)

I use Jergens face cream too (I buy it at the black beauty/ afro-hair shop). I wipe it of with cotton beauty pads and follow up with a hot wash cloth.

It still has three heads!

I love that set - wish I had it! I have a shelf behind my toilet with an assortment of vintage product packages... that would look super cool there!

I think the "three faces" was some type of marketing slogan. Something about how it was great for all complexions or something.

I agree that the Jergens is considerably less greasy than Pond's. But I still love me some Pond's!

I wasn't a huge fan of the Boots cream. It didn't smell overly rosy to me, more like bergamot. It also stung a bit, and $8 seemed high for the tiny jar that didn't last too long. I finished the jar, cleaned it out, and refill it with either Ponds or Jergens, since they both come in unattractive utilitarian plastic tubs. lol

I was thinking the exact same thing! I have the cold cream, the bergamot night cream and the skin tonic. The bottles look so nice lined up on my counter, but the price is a bit steep!

^ Yes, I saved the jar to refill, but I wasn't overly impressed with the Boots cream. For the price it definitely wasn't worth it.

A few days ago Target had all of the Boots vintage-styled products marked down on clearance. Might be worth checking your local store!

I visited the Jergens site, but couldn't find the cream there. Is it still in production? I'd hate to go buy a jar if I'm not gonna be able to replace it later...

appy - As far as I know it is still in production. I get it at Wal-Mart for around $4. I couldn't find it on the Jergens site, either, but not sure why!

I always though vanishing cream was for fading spots too. I just watched an episode of Honey West and Bruce the Ocelot ate a jar of it and the characters commented that an Ocelot can't change his spots.

I was thinking along the same lines, that's why I asked... lol

fortworthgal: Thanks, maybe I'll get some! :)

I've been using the Boots Cold Cream for a while now with no problems.
After one particularly bad skin outbreak I decided to use the Simple make-up remover then use the cold cream - what a bad idea.
My skin began to heat up and burn and I had to run to the bathroom to wash it off.

I manage to beat the 'greasy washcloth' syndrome by adding a pinch of sea salt to my basin of water and by making sure the water is hot. I do have very hard water here so I was using it primarily as a softener but it seems to also get my washcloth clean.

I'm not impressed that Boots have reformulated their standard cold cream, they seem to have cut out the Carnauba wax and it smells different.

Switched from Ponds to Boots and saw an immediate improvement in the oil slick that becomes of my t-zone about lunch time. I'm ordering the rose version from Cataphract Bath and Garden, and I'm hopeful to say that will become my new best friend. I got some of the unscented version, but have yet to try it on my face. Waiting until the Boots runs out. It's just hanging out in the back of my mini fridge. I've been using it for cuticle cream. lol

I love love love the smell of Ponds, but I don't think I'll be going back.

I'm with you Lenore. I don't see myself buying Ponds ever again because it's so darn greasy. I think it's the greasiest of all. I ordered the Cataphract cold cream in lemon and there is no grease after I tissue it off. Huge difference!

The lemon doesn't irritate your skin at all? I'm curious to know, because I have somewhat sensitive skin, and the scented varieties sound lovely, but I'm not sure how gentle they may or may not be...

I have the Lavendar Eucalyptus from Cataphract...she's willing to whip up one with geranium although she just listed a grapefruit one.

My head is spinning with all of the choices!

I LOVE the LE, so lovely and removes makeup like crazy!!! Much less greasy I agree!

Okay, so I'm currently test-driving the Jergens... Having read on here that Ponds can be too greasy, and the fact that Jergens was much cheaper, influenced my decision - but although my skin is combo/dry, when I used my new Jergens today, I felt it left my skin a little bit tight after rinsing. IDK... Maybe I should try the Ponds after all?

I thought I spied Jergens in Target the other week, but when I went back to get some, couldn't find it at all. The Pond's I've been using is a Mexican version, 'crema c', I think it's called, with green label and lid. It's been fine, though I couldn't quite understand why so many people were going on about the lovely, distinctive scent of Pond's.
Well, when the Jergen's didn't pan out, I got a nice large jar of Pond's for under $5, but the 'regular' stuff this time, and now I know. Mmmm, that sweet, nostalgic rose scent that makes me think of my grandmother.
The grease factor doesn't seem an issue for me. Maybe because my skin is older, or maybe because I take it off with cotton balls instead of a washcloth.

A question for those of you using Cataphract cold cream, are you not concerned with the quality control (for lack of a better term) of a homemade cosmetic? Yes, she can't stay in business if her product causes chemical burns or is rancid, but she also doesn't undergo FDA testing. I'd like to try her cold cream but I'm afraid to try a homemade product that I didn't make with my own hands.

hand made cold cream

I'm with you kamikat. I'm fine using my own hand made products, but am not likely to buy home made products on the interwebs from a complete stranger.

After reading about changed formulations and unpleasant scents, as well as being nearly out of Burt's Bee's Deep Cleansing Cream, I was inspired tonight make Janice Cox' "Orignial Greek Cold Cream."

The recipe has 5 ingredients, a reuseble the jar, and any scent I choose. In cleaning up the kitchen and getting some of the cream on my hands, I have to say, I like it already, but I can most more once I get to use it on my face.
