Hi Duper,
The brim is 2 5/8"...crown is 5 1/2", if I recall correctly.
Thanks for the compliments on the pic, all...the Griffith Observatory is a great place to visit for the Art Deco design if you're in the LA area...a fedora fits right in.
:arated:
I agree with Bart...your VS collection is amazing, D-guy. I was just thinking this morning of surfing this thread for images of some of your short-brimmed fedoras...I'm thinking a 2" brim camel fedora may be my next Art request. But then you publish this beautiful hat, and I'm...
Ok, this really belongs in the "What Hat Am I Wearing Today?" thread, but I thought it worth posting here as a way to bump the Art Fawcett HOF thread back to page one where it belongs. Let's get some new VS hats on this page, guys...do I have to buy another one myself? (The answer, of course, is...
Wow, great thread, and fantastic photos, everyone. Frussell, yours are especially impressive.
I've posted this elsewhere, but I'll add it here: a scan of a bad photocopy of a photo of my maternal grandfather, just after WWII. He owned a diner (Harnum's Diner) across the street from a paper...
Man, I don't check the site for a few days while on vacation, and look at all of the holiday goodies stacking up!
Mulceber, beautiful steel VS...that 2" brim looks great on you!
Handlebar Bart, you've gotten some fantastic results in letting Art do his thing, and this is amazing...I've...
Fantastic, Karl--that diamond is perfect on you. Like many of the gents here, it has become my preferred bash...I like the idea of a center dent, but can't seem to pull it off...
Brent, also consider Art Fawcett's blue smoke felt...a light grey with a bit more character in the blue tones, allowing you to match the grey beard (I speak from experience) with blues or darker greys you might be wearing. Then again, no need to be limited to your hair color--just have fun with...
Nice plan--great way to celebrate your 50th! Now you've got me wondering whether I can pull that argument off for my 48th next year, or whether I've got to wait two years...
MD, I can't add a whole lot to what has been said by others, but here's my experience:
1. absolute newbie: rushed out to Village Hat Shop and spent $300 on two modern Stetsons. One (the Saxon) I wear once or twice a year, the other (the Chatham) not at all. Probably wore the Chatham 6-7 times...
Thanks for your great work, Art--you're a true craftsman and, more importantly, a gentleman, and I'm sure your family will be happy to have you free from work. There'll be plenty more of that from us in the new year...I see a welted edge in my future...unless you're ready to try your hand at a...
Nice...I have no doubt this quality beaver felt will do just fine in the elements...even if I tend to want to treat my new hat like a new car and baby it at first! I've been wearing the steel fedora out in the relative cold of so. Cal. this week (low 40s am, low 50s pm) and it's perfect weather...
Yes, the steel felt fedora in these pics is 2 5/8" all around. The blue smoke paired with it has a slightly smaller brim at 2 3/8". But neither are dimensional brims.
Steve
My two cents...
Great late '50s/early '60s hats, everyone...and Mario, yours continue to blow me away. What a fantastic collection...especially that Borso.
Here are the two that I've picked up; I believe they are late '50s/early '60s, but I open to other thoughts:
This one is a Stetson...
Nice--I thought I recalled a Whiskey whippet! Funny thing is that my two VS fedoras are the only greys I own--others are all shades of brown, along with a green Stetson mode edge. That makes ordering the brown fedora tricky...trying not to reproduce colors. So, my third Art Fawcett creation will...
Thanks, everyone, for the comments--Art does such great work, but most of you know that already. His standard-weight camel will likely be joining my collection in the not-too-distant future, depending on the cost of the holidays, of course...and this time something other than a whippet, I...
