Who makes or sells the best khaki cotton web trouser belt, officer's style - with the solid brass roller buckle?
"Surplus" stores now only seem to sell ultracheap stamped plated metal buckles, and even the webbing is cheap looking.
Thanks!
Joel
This is a great hat, but I need to thin the collection.
Royal Stetson, size 7 3/8 long oval - and it hasn't shrunk into a regular oval. 2.5" brim, bound.
The felt is in pristine pliable condition - no stains, mothbites, or any other issues.
The liner has the original owner's name written on...
It's time to thin out my collection a little...
One light brown herringbone tweed, and one medium gray herringbone tweed, B! Wear newsboy 8-panel caps.
Suede sweatband, lined, size 7 3/8 (labeled "Large"). Like new condition, only worn a few times, and stored well in a smoke-free home...
This one just never found its way into the regular rotation, and since I'm not a collector, I'm letting it go. :eusa_doh:
This is one of Vintage Silhouettes' (Art Fawcett) 100% beaver custom hats, in mojave color, with a vintage 1" rust colored ribbon.
Brim is 2 5/8", crown is 5 3/4" when...

Anyone else notice this new offering?

Seems they saw my post from 10/06 about this ad:
Great looking hat. My only complaint is they should've done the brim as an overwelt. Also, waiting four months for...
Several people mentioned using Isopropyl alcohol on their hat to remove the stiffener. I tried this on a tough one I own, and it did nothing. If anything, the hat seems maybe a bit more stiff now... :(
I used 91% Isopropyl, and soaked it for over an hour; drained it well, and laid it on a...
This came in today. I don't think it's that old - anyone know when these went for $35? It says "A Byer-Rolnick Product".
It's a smooth felt, and was really easy to rebash without any steam. In general, it's a little stiff though.
Maybe it should be called the "not-so-wide country" since the...
I had assumed, wrongly I suppose, that 3x was the low grade felt (or finish). This Open Road has proved me wrong. It's really nice stuff! I think this is now my softest hat, or close to it.
Did any major company produce a standard model with a 2 1/4" brim width during the late forties/early fifties? An archive search hasn't turned anything up.
If yes, feel free to post pics if you have them.
The beaver felt color "natural" is my favorite by far. It's not gray, but it's not quite a brown tone either.
But, were there any hats done in this color back in the old days? Any photos or old ads, please post 'em!

I'm posting this here, because it's a hat, and because it didn't get much response in the WWII forum.
wwii impressions sells them for $50 less than history preservation assoc. Is it a different hat? Several people posted in the past that they both sell the same hat, made by the Lancaster...
Unworn, spotless pair of Bill's button-fly "authentics" Khakis. Washed once, so they won't shrink any more. Legs are unhemmed, so you can tailor them to yourself.
These are direct copies of the WWII service khakis. Strong material and construction.
They are size 34. They sit just under...
New Biltmore "milan" straw hat. Only worn a few times - it's in nearly new condition.
Size 7 3/8 (59)
I'm asking $40. Shipping is free to the 48 states.
I think this is a nice looking hat! It's wool, and made by "Golden Gate" hat co.
Anyone know what the quality is like?
I have images from 1930's/40's/50's catalogs, and the wool fedoras are right there on the same pages as the expensive fur felts. So, are there any good ones out there?
I'm curious as to why silk ribbon seems to have never been used on mens hats, or at least from the early twentieth century up to now. Is it just the cost (2.5x cotton grosgrain)? Because other than that, it's readily available, comes in endless colors, and is attractive, IMO. There is also...
More work on my poor Akubra Stylemaster...
I cut the brim down to 2 1/4", and sewed on the 2" ribbon and wind trolley. I think the brim width is now more in line with the low crown.
I don't have a picture, but I saw this interesting type of edge treatment up close and personal on a Hasidic man's hat in the D train:
it looked like there was a flap cut in the felt near the brim's edge, and the ribbon binding actually went under the felt, then the flap was stitched down...
I'm back after 5 days in Dublin. Granted it was a holiday weekend, but I didn't see a single fur felt of any kind the whole time. I saw about a half dozen geezers with Ivy style caps, but that was it.
I wore my Akubra Sydney every day as we walked around the city, and the reactions I got...
I'm no felt expert, but am I correct to assume that the 100% beaver felt that Art and Steve use for their hats is considered a heavy "winter weight" felt?
I ask because I notice in so many of your vintage hat pictures here that the creases and dents have a certain look to them that I can't...
