    Moth protection for Fedora Hats

Spit Socks I've had good luck with spit socks combined with hat boxes. The very same items used by police and healthcare personnel to keep from being spat upon. I've seen them priced as low as $2.00 from healthcare, industrial and police supply companies, but haven't checked the 'Bay...

    Stretching question

I'm thinking about doing a bit of stretching with a long-oval stretcher. My concern is that stretching the base of the crown will cause buckling of the brim. Does that make sense? If that's the case, any suggestions on avoiding the problem? Will I just need to stretch the hat and try to...

    Recommendations for old Panama

I recently bought this one at a yard sale (a tag sale to our Northern friends). It was filthy and the sweatband was crumbled. I washed it in warm water and Murphy's Oil Soap (mistake?) and removed what was left of the sweatband. It had been severely misshapen in storage, so I didn't really...

    Hatting Equipment....

Welcome! Where in NC? I notice Greensboro in your byline. Do you have a storefront? I'm in High Point - Furniture Capital of the World. Twice a year, we see lots of hats, as folks come in from over 100 countries. Granted, I probably wouldn't sport many of the hats I see during the...

Whaddaya do with yer lid while on a plane?

Portable storage One of my most-useful pocket contents is a clothespin with a small string loop attached. I can hang it just about anywhere and clip the hat for temporary safe (hopefully) storage.

    The Herbert Johnson Poet

HJ ID Not sure about the date. Any assistance with HJ dating would be appreciated! The brim on the darker one is 2.25" with no dimensional change. It's the only one of the two with any hidden markings--a tag under the lining. The lighter is 3" with no change with a crown about 5.25"...

    The Herbert Johnson Poet

Thx. I think the darker one is my favorite. The ribbon on it is actually about 49mm and the lighter one's ribbon is about 45mm. Any suggestions on a bash of the darker one? I must admit that, while I've been trying different ones, I've come to favor it more unbashed. Next step....searching...

    My yardsale find

Google Bobbe Arnst I found this quote online describing the settlement between JW and his second wife, Lupe (Google Lupe V?©lez while you're at it! ;) ): "Time and time again, Lupe filed for divorce, only to patch it up. Finally, in 1938, the marriage came to an end. Johnny was to pay Lupe $200...

    Panama grade after stretching ??

From posts here, it sounds like it's pretty easy to substantially stretch Panamas. My question is this: Won't the "quality" of the hat (at least the parts related to the tightness of the weave) be diminished by "loosening" its weave? Kevin

Where do you keep your hats?

Hey, y'all~ Okay, I have the hats. Now, where do I put 'em? The ones not on my head, I mean. I'd like to be able to store them where I can see them. Where do y'all keep your lids when they're not in use? Kevin[huh]
