Have you ever gotten into a heated argument with a "tailor"?

Gentleman, I have been away from the Lounge for a bit and in coming back, read this post with interest. Now as a tailor, with 28 years in my craft, it actually made me sad to think that such poor work out there in the world in giving my profession a black eye. First and foremost when...

    Show us your British suits

That vest is singularly one of the best pieces I've seen. Every stripe matches through-out the entire garment...pockets, lapels to body, collar to lapels, etc. Beautiful craftsmanship. That had to have taken a bit of serious thought to build.

Oops, she did it again! - Bespoke Gabardine Trousers - Pictures!!!

Congrats on the new trousers. Good job of workmanship. needs to be let out a bit through the crotch/thigh, as it looks to be pulling and cupping under your seat. minor alteration.

    Button it (Trivia)

What is sort of a sad twist to it all, is that I am now seeing functioning button holes on the sleeves of abysmally cheap coats (say under $100) at stores like Target, etc. There-by cheapening the entire effect and completely diminishing its exclusivity. One other point, is that the functioning...

"Has the economic situation put a crimp in your style?"

Yes it has, mainly because it has had a huge effect on my clients. Some were laid off, others had to cut back on purchases, and some simply told me that they would love to order new good, but that they would feel uncomfortable walking into work in new duds when they were laying off others...

    Show us your vehicles

I need to applaud everyone on their wonderful autos. Such great cars and better memories. Makes me think of some of my favorite cars over time. Learning to drive in a 1966 Chevelle SS 396 ( Dad ordered it Aug. '65 and started building the garage for it the very same day, always garage kept)...

    Measuring myself

I'll weigh in on this. Go get measured properly by a reputable tailor. Even if it costs money (which he should, if the tailor is worth his salt, he needs to charge for his time to stay in business), it will be worth it. Because the fit will be closer and thus eliminating some of the final...

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

You could go for a good used Excalibur, if you can find one. Built as both a Phaeton and coupe w/rumble seat....Hand-built in Milwaukee, with Corvette running gear (can always find parts). styled along the lines of pre-war Mercedes. Some love them, some think it was just a style gimmick. But...

    Christmas Window Displays

For those of us in Minnesota, it was traveling to downtown Minneapolis to view Dayton's great windows and their amazing 8th floor all decorated in different themes every year.

    Man I love this jacket...

Oxxford charges similar prices for their products. Granted, those prices are high for the average Joe, and I certainly am not able to charge such prices for my Bespoke work (but maybe some day.....). That aside, Samuelsohn makes a great product, I have worked on many of them, and appreciate...

Trick to get cotton shirts off-white?

There is no true formula to the amount of tea to use, as most all tea is different. You can try it rather weak to start and then repeat if you want it to have more color. You usually use a vinegar/water solution to lock the color in too.

    Quick cost question

My thoughts... Prices vary greatly depending upon the work to be done, the construction techniques involved and the region in which you live. Most reputable tailors will give out nothing but vague pricing over the phone and not seeing the garments. The telling issue is that a great tailor...

    MAURICE L. ROTHSCHILD/HART SHAFFNER & MARX STYLEBOOK 1925-26

My thoughts... Quite nice...thanks for posting. I noticed a lot of the captions said wide or full shoulders. this was actually not really "wide" yet, but just wider than most previous styles. Coats prior to this tended to have quite narrow shoulders. Thus the "new wide look" that there are...

Adding my bit Oxxford still makes them that way today.

    Formal Wear Primer

My little bit.... Shia LaBoeuf is also beltless, as you can just see a hint of suspender strap showing...this ads to the "clean" look of his suit.

    Sport coat and jeans??

My thoughts... Jeans and Sports Coat can look terrific when it is done properly, and look disastrous when it is done hodge-podge (such as blue blazer with blue jeans). I personally wear a great lambswool plaid coat with jeans and a shirt (no tie) when I wander about quite often. I actually...
