On 5 July my father and I took a trip to Mt Comfort airport (near Indianapolis, IN) to see the Liberty Belle.

It was a really wonderful expierience to be up close and personal with the planes my grandpa worked on. He was an armourer in the Army Air Corp during the war. I can just imagine him looking up from the flight lines as waves of the these mighty fortresses took off, and wondered how many would return and in what condition.

Although the original Liberty Belle, saw combat and went down, the current one never did. It came off the line just as the war was winding down. It was named Liberty Belle as a tribute to the original.

To all who served and worked on these planes, thank you!

Outstanding shots traditional, that is the reason we started a ground crew living history unit is fellows like your grandfather, who worked or loaded the airplanes but recieved no real recognition for keeping the airplanes in the air. We felt it was time to tell their stories.
