Thank you, Bob! I knew you would like this one!
Max, you have lots of great hats, but that belongs on the top shelf with your best! Congratulations!
Great one, Max! I’d say it’s more of a Carlsbad. All of the research I’ve found on Tom Mix hats points to 7.5x5 bound brim. 7x4 raw edge with curl is typically identified as Carlsbad. A beaut, love the frayed bow.
Thank you, Ross!
Thank you, Brent. It had stuck in my mind. I am glad that vintage-haberdashers relisted it. BTW, I wonder how much Dinerman is involved with it now. It used to be that they answered questions promptly and cordially. Now it takes several messages to get a curt response three days later, if at all
I know Spencer has been quite busy trying to open a new storefront ... perhaps that was the issue.
This is lovely, Max, congrats!
You certainly didn't ask but what about re-blocking and putting a more dress bash on it?
I know however you wear hat it'll be great.
By 1930 or so in his public appearances Tom Mix was starting to downsize his hat dimensions.
Beautiful breastplate & martingale, 1932.
This looks like the same style hat:
I was referring to 20-30s catalog listings for labeled Tom Mix Stetsons, they always seem to hover around 7.5 x 5/5.5 with 1 3/4 ribbon.
Oh, no, I am not going to change the bash. I love it as-is!
Sellers have to do what they can to get attention, but sometimes....at least we can get a little laugh:
“Vintage NEW 1940s LEE Whippet Beaver 20 DELUXE”
Well, at least two parts are true!
Anton Peschel 1930s. Size 59
Got this clean 50s Stetson Custom V about two weeks ago.
Heathered tan and brown felt. She’s a real beaut!
Don’t know what the V stands for.
Has a cool, unique 1 1/4” burlap style hat band having flecks of color woven throughout.
2 1/2” overwelt brim with 3 rows of decorative stitching.
Oh how I wish this one fit me!
Been hoping to find a heathered fedora and doubt there could be many more finer examples than this one, especially one of the rare V’s.
If I was a true collector I’d keep it, but only like to keep those that I can wear comfortably. Alas, She’ll be put back up on the Bay soon.
Nevertheless, I’m happy to have owned this great lid for a few weeks.
That’s a real beauty, Randall!
That is a beautiful heather - love the color!
Beautiful hat Randall.
That’s some gorgeous felt, Randall. Love it!
Well that was faster than expected... looks like this one may arrive tomorrow. WA to FL over the weekend.
Gorgeous hat. The above advertising is from 1953.
