It’s a commercial 1917. Frame built for the WWI contract, but wasn’t completed until after the war ended, sometime around 1920. I have another US Army 1917, which has its barrel replaced at some point, which I plan to cut to “Indy length”

Aaccording to Indy lore (i.e. indygear.com) Herbert Johnson was using felt bodies from the now defunct Cury factory in Brazil.
