I did the same thing as you Psant years ago. Walked in to the store, had Alan look at me in a fit jacket, and added an inch for a custom build.
Back then I had no understanding of “fit” and generally veered on longer lengths to appease fear of “appearing short”. In fact, I probably needed the inch as I’m 6’2” with long comical arms, but going through this jacket rabit hole, you end up being exposed to shorter jacket styles that fit right below or at the belt line and in time, you will be less prone to over-adding length to custom jackets as you get the hang of it. That said, your fit jacket looks pretty darn good. Also, type of pants worn/how high they sit on you on that particular day can play a difference in how long the jacket appears to be.
