A friend of mine just picked up this nice black leather coat at a thrift store. He was curious about info on the maker, manufacture date, etc. I volunteered to tap the wealth of knowledge here at Fedora Lounge. Below are a few pics that he's provided. The label says "A Robert Lewis Idea". I checked eBay and there are a few similar coats for sale but no details about the history. Does anyone here know anything about this label? Thanks.

No idea on label, but it looks like a recent incarnation of a "vintage" late 1960's to 1970's jacket. The cut is a little baggy and the 3 panel back a little more 1990's IMO to be vintage, but it looks nice enough. But... I have been mistaken before.

Based on the overall look and design, my instinct would say 70s too, though i should think that it wouldn't look odd worn with an earlier-vibe outfit. On something much earlier, I'd have expected scalloped yoke detailing etc. Looks quite practical, how's the weight and feel of the hide?

Looks like Steerhide- definitely Bovine.
Definitely not Goat.

That style of coat has been around for a long time,
it is surely from the '70s but it is not really "dated", look-wise to the '70s
due to the generic nature of the style... but such nuances as fit and cut
could, perhaps "date" it '70s, rather than earlier.
