I found a stumbled upon a blog that lists various products that are still made in the UK and if not where...Here is the link concerning hats: https://ukmade.wordpress.com/2014/0...s-hats-made-in-the-uk-scarves-made-in-the-uk/

Pardon me if this has been posted elsewhere...I'm going to give this a thread of it's own, but I'm also going to post this here, because they speak of Lock & Co.

Hope you enjoy if you choose to read....

I was going to start a Lock & Co thread but I see there is one....and not with much activity, last post 9 years ago....Maybe this is silly but....Maybe there are some folks that would enjoy it...

It appears many of Locks Fedoras and Trilbys are blocked and made in Manchester...
There is a tag in each hat that lists where the fur hood was sourced from to make the hat...They also sell hats made in the U.S., Spain, Italy (Borsalinos), Czech, elsewhere but no far eastern hats yet...You need to ask where the hat you want was made specifically if you want that info...

Heres my Sandown...Fur hood from Isesa, and made in England, bought in NYC at Brooks Bros. on sale for less than $200.....

image.jpg image.jpg
Please pardon the film noir drama on this last shot...This stuff was sitting around ...and I couldn't resist myself...Took the shot for something else and figured I toss it in here....}8^))

I do sincerely believe that Lock & Co still make one of the best currently made hats.....
And if you think the price is too high...wait and check out their other outlets til one goes on sale...it happens...

So who here has a Lock & Co hat?
Lets see them....Vintage or New!!

We here at the Lounge are the ones who appreciate all fine men's and ladies dress hats...
and there seems to be a shortage from this historic label.....so lets see what we do have...
I believe there are some who will dig this...I know I will....

Since I'm trying to reboot this Lock & Co. Thread...I'm including this link to a thread here at the Lounge intitled "Lock & Co. Video" This tread contains several vids...The one I posted is an interview with Sue Simpson the managing Director of Lock & Co..I think it's a great interview, and very informative....

Here Tis, enjoy: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/lock-co-video.80097/#post-1879674

I bought my Sandown new a year ago and was recently trying to decipher the paper tag, so I called L&C a couple times and received a couple of very nice e-mails from Ms Simpson herself...The customer service at Locks is reknown and now I see why...They make you feel like one of their family....Even if you bought their hat on sale.....lol!

Anyone know the average re-sale price range for a Lock & Co. unlined Fedora? I saw one in a store in my size - it's about $160. It looks a lot like the Chelsea and somewhat like the Louisiana.. They've got a few left over. I wish I knew the name of that lid...

Barry
This quote is 9 years old...And I have seen NEW Lock & Co. unlined Fedoras on sale ftom $170 to $235 at several merchants this past Holiday Season...This would include the Sandown, Wetherby, and a hat that looked very much like the Chelsea....
Repeat, this wasn't a resale price but a sale price....

Just the thread I've been looking for. I recently purchased a trilby (the Brooklyn) off Ebay. Tag said the fur is from Portugal and hat is "handmade and hand finished in England."

Thanks! Would you have any guesses on the felt manufacturer? Since the fur origin says Portugal, I'm hoping it's FEPSA. Either way, very nice hat.

Too self conscious to take pics [emoji27]... In time...

Nice article...This is Merchant & Makers Magazine's interview with Sue Simpson of Lock & Co.

But first....
When I called Lock, looking for info on a hat I bought at Brooks Bros in NYC, I ended up getting a very nice and informative email back from Sue. I call the company since and they put me on hold and Sue picked up! I wasn't calling her...But I thanked her for her email a couple years ago. She was super warm and friendly, and instantly recalled the email and the hat it was about...She asked about the trilby I had bought from Brooks Brothers and questioned me about how I liked it...what I liked about it and if I would change anything...And said they would love to clean and freshen it up if I was ever in town!

What can I say?

Here's her interview:

Newbie here.....

Any feedback on hats from Lock and Co. London?

They have a hat I kinda like...

Welcome! There’s lots of great existing information here for you to look through. Have you tried using Google to search The Fedora Lounge? There are many existing threads for you to go through. This is the first:

https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/lock-co.7110/

Not sure what type of feedback you’re looking for. If you like the style, I suppose you’re asking about quality? If, after some due diligence, you can’t find the answer you’re looking for we might be able to help with a more specific question(s).

Thanks sorry for the generality of my question and not looking first.... I know better.

And yes, quality was the point of the question and the post you pointed out helps.

I’ve only owned two Lock & Co. hats and both were fairly modern. The hats were not that impressive. Lots of better choices in that price range. I’d either save some money and get something else (the Akubra idea is great), or I’d go custom. You can commission a custom hat and end up with exactly what you want that’s much higher quality for the same price.

Great looking hat. Not sure what it is you like most, but that style is very close to several Akubra models. At a fraction of the price. Remove the hand band and there you go.
Johnny

Hmm...

What do you call the crown on the Lock & Co. hat at the link I posted? Not a telegraph, more like something on a pork pie...
I looked at the Akubras and the Pastoralist is about as close as I can find.

Do you really have to order them? Can't find one in stock anywhere...

Here are some telescope/pork pie crowns from Akubra
https://hatsdirect.com/collections/the-akubra-range-1/products/squatter-open-crown
https://hatsdirect.com/collections/the-akubra-range-1/products/plainsman
https://everythingaustralian.com.au/row/campdraft-hat.html
https://everythingaustralian.com.au/row/squatter-hat.html
This page has it in Fawn.
https://everythingaustralian.com.au/row/plainsman-hat.html
https://everythingaustralian.com.au/row/gymkhana-hat.html
I have personally ordered from both these web pages before and did not have an issue. Anything open crown can be shaped any way you want. It’s not as hard as you think. Also at that price point you can get a custom made beaver done up at virtually any place that makes custom hats
