Now I am curious how you transfer the head shape from the conformateur to the formillion? Ideas? All of these tools that I have seen worked off of the scaled down punched out piece of paper(achieved by the conformateur) that is inserted into the center of the formillion. Fedora

Its so so so easy to use - literally depress the metal arms on either side, which releases the pegs inside, - slide it on the customers head with the side arms depresssed. Then release the black arms on either side. The system then closed and holds the pegs in shape, and your remove from the customers head. Takes literally a couple of seconds!

The next part is basically the same as other model conf. Place the conf on the base ( 2 holes top and bottom of the base hold it in-line)

Loosen the wing nuts on the formillion. Place the formillion inside the halo on the base ( you can see two small pins hold it in place top& bottom of the inner base). Push the formillion pegs out to meet the pegs in the conf. then tighten all 4 nuts on the formillion.

Remove the formillion and have the final block, with a 1-1 modeling so no resizing errors :D

[huh] What a dummy I am. That is so simple. I guess in order to keep records of particular head shapes, you could trace out the shape and transfer it to another medium for future use if the customer ordered again. Thanks. Fedora

Yep just trace the outline of the formillion on paper ( 1-1 scale)

Only difference is that have a full model size of their head on that having a small model.

Beautiful find

It looks to be made by the same company that made the other style conformateur. This one looks more sturdy, and compact. I haven't seen one like this before. Where on earth did you find it, and what is the story on how you were lucky to get it?

Yes it ia a Allie Maillard, got it from another Hatter who did not need it as used the other 'Top hat' shape varient. Just needs a couple of adjustments on a few of the pegs that are loose, otherwise fine and fully operational.

As to sturdy - yep feels like it was built for a workshop environment and to be manhandled, nothing delicate about it but very simple to use.
:D
Been looking for a old COnformateur & formillion set for some time, and been chasing this one for some months I had seen it before once ...but though it had been sold and i lost the contact details of the seller, eventually i found them again, and turned out to be someone I knew!

The fun question to ask is "what size is it?"...terrific looking arcane instrument, a piece of sculpture in its' own right, and one heckuva functional work of ingenuity what a good score-congrats!!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap
