Need help with screen captures

I wanted to do some screen captures of a hat from the "My Man Godfrey" DVD so that I could post them here and ask about hat colors, but haven't been successful at it. I first tried the old "PrtScn" key method, but just got a black image. Then I downloaded some screen capture utilities, but they yield only the border of the media player, with a black image as well. There is something I am doing wrong, or some trick that I don't know about. Any suggestions?

Not a problem. I'm going to lock the thread for now. If anybody is interested in finding out how to legally obtain this software, please contact me via PM, and I will detail how to do so (meaning I will tell you how to buy it online from the retailer)
