Panama from Ecuador

My parents are traveling to Ecuador and are planning on purchasing a Panama hat for me. I don't want them to splurge on the montecristi type, but I at least want a medium quality/weave. Any input? Photos maybe? Thanks

What city are they going to? I can help you out with contacts, but it depends on which city they will be in.

If they are in Guayaquil and have a day, rent a driver or take a bus to Manta, well a little bit before Manta to a town named Montecristi. Have them drive up the the second street up the hill and turn left to the next street. TUrn left at the church and drive down until you see FACTORY HATS and ask for Modesto. He'll have what you want. The store is on the left about 1/2 way down from the the church to the highway.

Explain to them that the white hats aren't Montecristi, although everyone will tell them that they are.
