Anyone ever use the Murrays Hair Glo from that site?

Hey Chad,

A barber I used to go to when I had the full on pompadour would use this on me occasionally when I really wanted high shine. It is similar in texture to Royal Crown or Murrays Lite and produces a very high sheen. Probably around a 40 weight texture wise, so it is definitely a lighter weight product and very nice shine, don't recall the smell being that bad.

The Hair-Glo is lighter than Vasoline....very thin. Good for shine is about all.

I tried a bunch of different ones over the years, and finally settled on Aloe Vera Jell. It sets well, smells completely neutral, is good for the scalp and hair, and washes out with no problem. Kinda like thick water

Matt is right it is very thin and not any hold to it. If your just looking to add some shine I found an awesome way expermenting this weekend. I recently picked up a bottle of Jeris Hair Tonic w/oil at a local barber supply, after putting in my pomade this weekend for a date/dancing, I added some Jeris into my hair over the pomade while my hair was still damp, omg I have never had my hair shine like that before. I got several compliments on it that night.

It doesn't have any real hold benefit, but really compliments the pomade and really gives that old school high shine and locks in the slickness for the night.

Murray's pomade was invented in '25. It takes me 2 months to finish a tin, and I have very short hair!

Vintage Hair Care

I'm willing to scrap all the stuff I use now for something more retro or effective. I have dry, curly, uncontrollable hair. I use a target dandruff shampoo and have been for half a year now every day, and still haven't seen any effects. I still have a flaky white scalp. What I need is a good moisturizing shampoo/conditioner that actually WORKS.

I also want a good product for hold and curls control (a pomade, but I'm willing to use something else; tonic) that preferably has some straightening effect. I don't mind if it can't wash out or is real sticky, I kind of favor that.

I like my hair to have a REAL shiny surface. Any brilliantine, pomade, tonic, etc will work. I don't need any hold as I would be using a product specifically made for hold, but if it has a hold than all the better.

Lastly, is their any liquid that straightens the hair a bit? I don't want to go through the hassle of a straightening iron. Maybe a homemade mixture or conditioner of sorts.

I prefer more vintage stuff, like from the 20s-early 60s and would stay away from a more modern product, except for the shampoo. I like real retro packaging, something art nouveau/deco. I would also accept something 40s/50s. I currently use Murray's original pomade for hold and Murray's Hair Glo for shine. The original is good for hold, but if there are some better suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Hair glo hasn't been working that great, though. I'm looking into dapper man's and Yardley's . Again I need a dandruff shampoo/straightener, hold product, shine product, and straightener. Thanks!

Does anyone have advice for someone who has natural oily hair and many out of control cowlicks?I like to comb my hair straight back if I can.I have used royal crown.My hair is very fine.I am a truck driver so as you know it is not possible to shower every day ,so when i get up in the mornings my hair wont do anything.How do you guys get your hair to comb straight back everyday?please help..........

The proper haircut will go miles in helping you with this as well. I would recommend letting it grow fairly long the front, top and crown (with shorter back and sides). I have quite a few cowlicks and this has been the fix for my hair for years. I can tell you that Murray's will straighten out any hair and lay it down if applied in the correct amounts.

Lately I have been thinking about going back to a flat-top cut. I ran with a flat-top for abou two years or so, then I got lazy last spring and started growing it out. I tried the long-hair thing, but I have such thick hair I was finding it difficult to keep it as I wanted it. It didn't help that I was using Murrays, and was losing hair every time I ran my comb through it!

So, here I am back at square one, thinking about either going back to my flat or maybe growing it out again, and finding some lighter pomade that still holds but won't remove my precious hair (by the looks of my family, I better enjoy it while I have it!) What pomades do you all suggest for shorter cuts? I've only had experience with Murrays and American Greaser, both leave something to be desired, and Layrite (I love the smell/washability but hate that it harders like gel)

Candle Warmers

I don't know if anybody else here does this, but this is an idea that I've had on my mind for a while, and was only finally realized today.

My hair is finally long enough again to require the use of some straight Murray's (Otherwise, RC by itself would work), and today, I bought an electric candle warmer and set my Murray's tin on it before getting into the shower.

It was probably over an hour before I got to it, and the pomade was just the right pliability for hair application. It doesn't seem to get hot enough to actually melt the pomade, but I haven't tried keeping it on longer.

Of course, the package does warn that it shouldn't be used on anything besides candle jars, so be careful if you do this. (Please, don't set your bathroom on fire)

Well I used to use Murrays too and pulled out much hair when I had the longer pompadour. Now I use Groom and Clean and/or Murrays Lite, and occasionally Layrite. The Groom and Clean works well on my short back and sides with sharp side part and quiff-( basically like my avatar only more tapering on the sides. You can recomb it easily throughout the day and it will still have that groomed look and will not dry out or stiffen like layrite, if you use enough of it it will give a nice deep shine AND.. it washes out with one easy washing!!
