LOL! I felt like a total idiot taking a picture of myself in the mirror. I took about 20 pictures most of which had too much glare from the flash. I would ask my wife but she's not so much into my new hat obsession. Thanks for the encouragement! Those are just the facts.

lol I hear ya, my wife thinks I am nuts. [huh]

Here are some shots of newly acquired lids. I apologize in advance for the crappy camera.

Thanks, guys!

J.T. - I just found the Lee yesterday and it has the largest dimensions of any hat I own. The brim is just under 3".

MLong - I believe that eventually my wife will come around. Possibly when I have as many hats as she has shoes. lol

Brad - Your expertise on all things Cavanagh is definitely appreciated around here! The Carroll John is one size too small for me but I have been attempting to gently coax it to fit. So far so good!

I finally won a homburg. Does anyone know anything about 'Swift Limited San Francisco'?

Here are a couple of auction pics. As you can see, it comes with a Dobbs box. I'll post better when it arrives.

Now I can dress like Viper Man! :D

You and the Viper Man have scored some nice Homburgs lately!

Just a guess:

Swift Limited might have been a menswear store, and this hat was made for them by Hat Corporation of America. My only clue is the clover leaf sweatband bow, which seems to have been typically used on Hat Corp. sweats. It may not have been an exlusive sweatband bow design.

Borsalino has used a four-leaf clover on their sweats in the past, though.

You'll have to tell us what you find under the sweatband.

O wise hat historian, what can you tell me of Hat Corporation of America? To what era would you date the homburg?

My first win on Ebay...

Well I finally got the guts to do the ebay thing. Ended up with this 50's Dobbs Cushion-Aire. Fits like a champ, and was in pretty decent shape. One teeny weeny moth bite. I did make a rookie mistake however. I didn't like the sweat stains, so I put the liner in a nice mixture of orange clean and mild bleach. Got the liner squeaky clean, but also took the gold leaf paint on the dobbs logo away. Nonetheless, I'm diggin it. Funny thing is, I had like $30 in paypal that i completely forgot about. so when paying, it really only cost me a bit of out of pocket money. What do you all think? Did I do good?

To an earlier point but a tad off topic...

To clean liners, I remove them and soak them in Oxy-Clean. That junk works as advertised! I was kind of shocked. It seems gentle and hasn't damaged any of my logos. I think the Orange stuff a previous poster mentioned works as a sort of paint stripper. FYI...

The homburg can go all the way up to semi-formal (eg, stroller [daytime] or dinner jacket/tuxedo [evening]). My homburg is grey, though, so I likely wouldn't wear it in the evening with a dinner jacket (I'll get a black one sometime). The bowler would work well with a suit. I don't know if one could pull it off with a daytime semi-formal or not, but I wouldn't do it with a dinner jacket. It's meant for daytime wear. Truth is, I just couldn't resist on the bowler. :eusa_doh:

Maybe I'll look like this:

what does everyone think of my new hat?

I made this hat from a 100% rabbit fur hood and finished it with a nice grey triple ribbon. The color chioce wasn't my best move though, my wife hates it. She says it matches nothing in my wardrobe, and I do have to concede that she is right:eusa_doh: . So I would like to hear folks impressions of my first hand made hat. And if anyone might like it PM me and I might be willing to let it go. The size is 7 1/8 and the crown is 5 1/2" tall and the brim is 2 3/4" wide. It does need a few finishing touches, but overall it looks pretty nice to me.

Very nice.

Matching every item in one's ensemble is for the fairer sex. Think complement rather than match. The question is, what wouldn't it work with?
