Picked up my first "dress" straw (not a "farm" hat). A Dobbs Jamaica from the 1970s I'm guessing -- the store closed in 1980 after nearly 100 years. Sorry for not keeping the back of the brim flipped up in the photos.

I'll try and get a head shot up when it's not so windy.

So -- what is this straw called?

Thanks,

Bob

Wormser/ pre 1934

Out of the box - 6" crown, lovely raw silk liner and embossed sweatband. 2 1/4" ribbon is soft and substantial. Has been used but in exceptional condition for a hat that lived through the Depression. I will post additional photos in the Wormser thread once I have a chance to clean, steam and preen the long hairs.

Sorry to copy all the pictures for my comment, yet that is amazing! I still think Alan and a few other Loungers have some electronic hat radar gizmo to find all these treasures! If someone did not even like the style of that hairy beast, they could not but help to love how nice that hat looks. From the inside out, not much running around that nice looking. I would love that in a 7 1/2 LO for my Husband, that is almost too nice! You need a Mink Coat now Alan. And some 2140 Wayfarer RayBan Sunglasses to go along with everything! And no...NO Cadillac!

Thanks guys. Just last week I lost a bid for a 50s Whippet and I figured it'd be a loooong while before I could have a chance at another that I could attain and wondered if the elusive Start was in the cards. Then here it is! What a great feeling for a new comer to the world of vintage hats.
ya done good !

congrats

what a feeling , right ?

Just received my Optimo Chicago a few days ago. Color is Brownstone; ribbon is nicotine.; felt is mid-weight. Estimated shipping date of 6 1/2 weeks actually took 10 1/2. Relatively low crown and 2 1/4" brim; but IMHO, the proportions are killer. Very pleased, even though Brownstone is A LOT darker than I was expecting from the images and swatches on the Optimo web site (hence the trouble with color veracity via the Internet). But the color is very rich, with gray undertones, which come through nicely on the natural-light photos below. And as a side note: this is the first hat I've owned that I can pull off with the brim up. I'll be posting more pics on the Optimo thread.

Without a doubt the brim up looks great on you as does the Optimo esp in that dark coffee color brown.

Quite right on the proportions. The color combo is great.
