Just scored a real nice size 7 1/4 **** *** ugly black Resistol Stagecoach. To anybody who loves Black Westerns with tall tapering crowns and wide brims, this hat is a real beauty. It originally came with a "brick crease" which I popped out and reshaped with a "Tycoon" crease, 5' at the pinch and sloping to 4' in the back. The brim has a classic cowboy curled 4 1/2' wide brim. The sweat on this hat is really soft and all the embossed printing is still like new. It came with the hat band missing so I threw a bolo tie on it to see what it would look like. Not too bad, I think. The liner shows very little wear but was wrinkled a bit. I took it out for ironing and then I'll put it back in. Vintage 1970s, I'm guessing. Maybe even late 1960s. My Resistol Stagecoach / Indy conversion has the same liner and it's '70s vintage. Anyway here's some pics of my recreased **** *** ugly Black Resistol Stagecoach. I'll be putting this one on the bay or trade it off...picture quality from my cell phone is poor.

Dogman, that is a very cool box. I have never seen one like that. Maybe that is a special box they only used for clear beaver like the suitcase they used for Stetson 100's. Your hat looks like an early 1950's to me.

I also noticed the name "Texas Joe" and that the hat came from Fort Worth. This a long shot but it could have belong to Joe T. Garcia, a restauranteur in Fort Worth. Most people called him Joe T. but I believe he also had a nickname of Texas Joe. The Mexican restaurant he started is still operating and is a Fort Worth landmark. Do a Google search on "Joe T. Garcia, Fort Worth".

The quality and sophistication of hats here... it's like we're in the presence of royalty! Although I feel somewhat unworthy of posting this relatively newer, much less significant find, it IS my size. So that makes it rare. Presenting the Werner Hilton.

The name conjures up all kinds of thought connections...Werner Herzog, Conrad Hilton, Werner Heisenberg (or that recently popular pork pie), and as you mentioned in another thread, Werner Klemperer. I'm curious about the history of the brand. Nice one, Charlie. I know how rare hats in your size are.

Heisenberg was one of Niels Bohr's associates on formulating the theories on Quantum Mechanics during the 20s, but I think it was Robert Oppenheimer, who was famous for wearing a porkpie - and sometimes an OR or OR-clone(?)

Ole--I'm referring to the main character in the recently ended American television series Breaking Bad, who occasionally wore a black pork pie hat and whose pseudonym was Heisenberg, which he used since he was a chemist. An obscure reference I know, but my mind was wandering.
