That's weird..it posted the links to my photobucket account. How do I get the photos to actually post on the forum? I followed the guide on the faq, but all it posted were the links. Any suggestions?

CDunlap, here's how it's done using your Photobucket site. Over on the right in Photobucket, under 'Share Links', left click on the second link (direct). It will automatically copy. Then paste that link here in your post and type this at the beginning of the link

This will embed the full picture in your post. You do not want the html in there like you have now.

If you do not want the full picture embedded and only want a thumbnail that people can click on, eliminate the / in the [/img] and just put this at the end You can try it and just click preview to test it out without actually posting. Believe me, it's way easier than it sounds. Feel free to ask if you have any problems.

Matt's posting of warm weather hats reminds me to showcase a couple of vtg. fedoras.

The vtg. Stetson panama, Hales Mens Shop, with gorgeous tobacco colored decorative pug is one of the woven pocket handkerchief feeling straws. The light brim has a uneven shape, but a little steam will make it very special. I suspect that the brim will tremble and quiver in a breeze.

The milan, Lamson and Hubbard of Baltimore-New York has a gorgeous leather band marked Thompson's of Texas. The Milan is pliable, but not loose. It will move gently in a wind, albeit it will need a stronger wind than the panama. The crown is formed into a shape which I have not appreciated in the past. I have worn this about the office this morning and find its appeal growing on me. My tastes change. The colorful decorative band needs some cleaning and I will hand clean that this coming weekend.

Getting ready for warmer weather by searching for woven hats. My last few woven hat acquisitions have required significantly less costs than the last felts. I would have thought the opposite.

Woo hoo! My first "New Hat" post. I was in the market for a nice Fedora, though I knew absolutely nothing about them (well, except that Indy wore one...). I've always wanted a "nice hat" as they were reminiscent of all the old detective and crime movies I grew up watching. After much hit-and-miss searching, I came upon this site, loitered a bit, and then ran across the Vintage Silhouettes thread. I read about Art Fawcett and his shop in Oregon, and I knew I would order one soon. As luck would have it, I very soon thereafter came across an eBay ad for a VS in what I presume is my size (a not-insubstantial 7 3/4...). The price was right for a like-new hat, and I pounced. The hat came in yesterday, and I was like a kid at Christmas! It's AWESOME! lol. My very first Fedora! The color is close to what is often described as "Caribou" or grey, with a dark brown (not black) ribbon. Oh, and the box was not too shabby either--my first, real, nice hat box!

It seems to fit right on, though the crown "bottoms" on the top of my head--is this how it should fit? I might try a 7 5/8 as well to see what it fits like (this is just the beginning of my collection ).

LOL! Well, that's part of the problem with having a taste/budget crisis as I do... I plan to order another from VS (maybe a dark brown/black ribbon version), and then give DAquino a shot after my first, true custom from VS. Gotta' start saving my pennies....

My "New" Crofut & Knapp

I wandered into a neighborhood Antiques shop yesterday and while poking around the old clothes racks stumbled on this beautiful Crofut & Knapp. I can't begin to describe what a beautiful "Hand" the felt has. No marks, no bites, the sweatband is firmly attached and soft and supple. It has a Cavanagh Edge, and the original label is intact if a bit worn, and it came from a shop right here in Cleveland. Does anybody have any idea as to the decade it was made? It needs some loving cleaning, who would you suggest I entrust it to? I wear a 7 3/8. could Optimo carefully stretch this or should I just sell it?

+50, or more!! Please keep it intact! An upsizing of a lid that old and special would be akin to painting a Model T red. It is done, but lowers the value from an historical or collectors' perspective. They aren't making that model anymore. JMO...

+100 seems like it's an early Cavanagh edge model, can't say the age for sure. Sell it, ebay or maybe here in the classifieds, take your profit and get a proper 7 3/8 hat.

Cigarband, great find! I agree with everyone above, please don't alter the hat. It dates to the late-Teens or early-'20s. I might know of someone interested in buying it for the historical value.

Tumwater Hats, another fantastic hat from Tonyb, in his dress weight beaver (silverbelly) 2 5/8 inch brim, edge is bound in a lemon yellow 1930's vintage ribbon that I shopped for to have put on this one, the dark grey ribbon and triple bow work by Tony added this tall crown no taper fedora right in the custom hat with a seriously vintage look to it. Arrived just in time for my Husband, as it is his birthday gift from me to him. He normally is not fond of a wide ribbon hat...but this one he loves already. I'll post some head shots maybe tomorrow evening. I can just say to Tony thank you a million times for this one. Even the felt is just as smooth as a baby's ****! LOL !!!!

Wow, you do not run into many hats that old that are that nice. You may even find someone to swap a hat for this? Nice.
