Tragic Labor Day Love Story from 1935

I heard about this story on a History Channel program
that was going over the horrible Labor Day Hurricane
disaster that hit the keys in 1935.

Although the mention of this young couple was short, I felt
drawn in. I could only find this one, single piece on them
on the internet. It is done well and I wanted to share it
with all of you. It just seems like a story that should be
written for a screenplay or something. They were such
a handsome couple and in the photos you will see, appeared
very much in love.

Jazzzbaby, What a tragic story. This could be developed into a very touching period film, especially with the background information in the article.

There was a neat scene in the movie, "Ask the Dust" where the main character was in Long Beach when the earthquake hit in 1933.

It's also neat that the girl's brother is still alive to tell the story.

Agreed. This would most likely be done better as an Independent Film.

I was watching the History Channel, and they were discussing
the Labor Day Hurricane that killed hundreds of Veterans
and civilians. This was a short story included. I do believe
they were friends with Ernest Hemingway as well.

Thanks Jazz for the story-

As a hurricane Katrina survivor- (my dog drowned- my house was damaged, evacuated by the military, I couldn't clean out my house for two months- ect ect)

It particularly touched me. I think to experience nature's wrath first hand is.. well its very hard to explain.. but even when I think of the experience I went through- or read something like this- It brings me to tears.
luckily though most of my friends lost almost everything- houses underwater- but- none of them lost their lives- and I'm so thankful for that.

I have to also hand it to the gold ole' Soldiers who nearly physically removed me from my house (guns in hands) because I refused to leave! I most certainly would have died or had no fresh water for weeks- if I had not.

boo hoo, this story made me sad- I'm going to drink a cup of tea and bask in the sun! It makes me appreciate life every day!
